Materialism: The "What have you bought?" Thread

I have inherited many traits from the Swedish side of my family - binge drinking, stoicism in the face of adversity, an inexplicable love of salt liquorice - but my firm belief in döstädning is perhaps foremost among them. No Marie Kondo shit, just keeping on top of things so that your relatives don't have to deal with it all at some point. Not that I know who'll be dealing with it in my case, in the absence of any descendants, but still.

How does your fella feel about that?

He mostly buys more books.

So, not more vases and pan sets then? I'd kill for for a partner who just wanted books. Books are easy; buy 'em, read 'em, donate 'em.

We've honestly got a fucking washing machine down there that's not connected or owt. There it is, sitting there, taking up space in what should be my little Fortress of Solitude. Too cumbersome for me to move without another couple of strapping lads and some specialist equipment.

My lass just keeps buying mugs. She has a particular liking for Emma Bridgwater ones. When they’re all washed there’s not enough room in the fucking cupboard for them all. Oh, and my Father’s Day present (allegedly off the kids) :

I'm going to ask the bairns to get me CT's wedding pic on a mug. (Might order it direct from his SIDE HUSTLE actually?) :cuppa:

Mint. There's a documentary called Rise of the Synths that's narrated by John Carpenter, all about Synthwave music and the resurgence of that 80s sound. It's a decent watch if you're into that sort of thing.

I love John Carpenter. He did a show at the Tyne Theatre a few years back playing the soundtracks to all of his own movies live in stage with his son. One of the best gigs I've been to. I may or may not have paid for VIP tickets to meet him and get a couple of vinyls signed 😂

Mad how good his films are on top of the soundtracks he also created for them. He’d get legendary status for either. Lost the plot with both imo but the 70s and 80s stuff is fucking brilliant

He also had a hand in the F.E.A.R game series too I believe, which were all pretty good games.
