Don't just blame Erkkson - blame the overpaid, underperforming fatheads in white. (makes a nice change not saying "in BLACK and white! !) :D

I`m glad some on here recognise that rather than just blame the manager. Though as much as i feel its unfair to blame just Sven the overpaid players have to take responsibilty but perhaps it is a similar case to Berti Vogts for us. There appears to be no passion or orgainsation in the team and perhaps a shake up is needed.

29829

Mangers have to take ultimate responsibility, thats why clubs/countries aren't just 11 players doig what they want, the manager dictates everything.

And when its the formation, tactics, substitutions and management that is causing the problem it has to be pointed out. A top class manager with that group of players and that talent would be hammering the likes of N. Ireland and there is no way the manager can hide from this.

29832

Is this not the same thing we hear everytime things don`t go Englands way and you are looking for a new manager?

29834

You hear it everytime the manager is doing a shit job, which is the way it should be.

Theres plenty of people, not just in England who rate this group of players highly, and he is turning them into a very mediocre team when they should be caning teams like N. Ireland with the talent available. The manager is responsible and he should go.

29837

I am not disputing he should go as i posted in my original post i think you badly need a shake up. I do however think that many of the players are not playing to their ability...

29839

There is a certain element of the players not beign at their best its true, i just think most of it is down to his lack of tactics, motivation and the like.

Under him i don't see Rooney's childish behavious ever improving as the boss exerts no authority about him at all and won't sort him out. When he behaves like a prick bring him off, if he does it again drop him, you'll soon find he grows up fast when he doesn't get a game.

The right team won that game. Why did sven replace Wright-phillips with cole? Lampard was totally anonymous, he'd have surely been a better bet to be removed and turn it into a 4-4-2.

I'm sick of them indulging and excusing the little wanker. Its always frustration and the like for poor little Wayne according to the commentators, no...its him behaving like a twat!

He's vital to the team and has all the ability in the world but he needs a good kick up the arse to learn his lesson. Beckham was similar and it took the red card int he world cup and shitloads of abuse from everyone for him to grow up, we don't need Rooney to have to do the same!!!

I agree. And the way he completely ignored his captain trying to calm him down and have a word with him tonight was out of order. They should all hold him down in the changing room and let Beckham fart in his face as punishment - if he wants to behave like a child, treat him like one. :D

Enough of the Swede - bring back the Turnip!

"Do I not like Orange......." :D

On a serious note, woeful performance by all - Players and Manager/Coaching Team alike. What did Beckham say? The lads are disappointed??

Disappointed?? It's the fans who are disappointed, the players should be fucking ashamed of that performance!!

That was just a complete bag of bones. Totally dis-jointed.

IMO, SWP should hold his head in shame. It was obvious he had the pace to skin the fullback but didn't have the skill to control the ball and do the business. Beckham gave him four or five fantastic passes in the first half that SWP should have used to skin the full back but he fucked up every time.

Well done to Northern Ireland though, job well done.

Did you see McClaren telling Rooney to smile when he was in the middle of his tantrum? 'Smile' 'Smile'. Rooney just gave him some abuse.

A complete bag of bones.

Plan A (our main formation) should be 4-4-2. Its what the players know best and what we are most comfortable with in this country.

Keeper - Paul Robinson. Not many arguments about that I wouldn't have thought? James has played and talked his way out of the picture hopefully. Adequate back-up provided by Green and Kirkland (who I still think could be the No.1 if he can steer clear of injuries). Nigel Martyn as a wildcard if you're looking to a more experienced reserve.

Full Backs - Ashley Cole on the left. He might be a greedy little cheat but there's not many better left backs. Bridge if fit and in form is the only other LB I can think of to go in my squad

Garry Neville on the right. I don't like him as a person, but a solid right back with bags of experience. Cover from Young if he comes on ok or Carragher because of his versatility.

Centre Halves - an embarrassment of riches. Sol, Rio, Terry, Carragher all up to the task. Wouldn't it be great if Jonny Woodgate could play enough to come into contention? Upson too slow, Ledley King a possibility.

Centre mid - Gerrard and Lampard are the best centre mids in the country. But their styles are too similar. They need to have their roles defined and stick to them. Of the two I think Gerrard is more suited to the holding role so he would need to show the discipline to sit tight as Lamps bombs on. If the situation arises where we need to shore up midfield Carrick and Parker would do the job, more like specialist holding players with decent passing ability.

Wings - Sven has to find a left sided midfielder out of J.Cole, Downing or Richardson. Joe Cole has done ok, but he tends to drift inside. Again discipline is needed to keep the shape.

Beckham on the right. Not the fastest and not the fulcrum he was a few years ago but still delivers quality balls from the right side and set pieces. SWP as a more electric alternative.

Centre forwards - Owen up Rooney playing off him. Again not many arguments about this one. Michael for his pace & finishing (as long as we don't knack his hamstrings) and Rooney for his creativity and power.

Back-up from Defoe.

Is it narcissistic to quote yourself?

Same problem tonight: disorganised, shapeless mess. Even the most talented players need their roles to be clearly defined. For the team to succeed they then have to stick to their roles.

Why are they insisting in playing an attacking minded midfielder (Beckham) in a defensive, holding role?

If they're adamant they want to use that role, then surely they should be looking to use someone more suited to it - Scott Parker for instance...

All this 'Beckham, Lampard & Gerrard have to play because they're all world class and our formation should change to accomodate them' is complete bollocks IMO. We should use a formation which best suits all 11 players and gives us the best opportunity of winning.

If that means leaving one of the 'sacred three' on the bench, then so be it! Fucking hell, they're being treated like prima-donnas - not one of them is, or should even be considered to be bigger than the team!

All three were complete gash IMO tonight! And Rooney?? Petulent little toss-pot, I'm suprised he wasn't booked a second time for dissent the way he was going on!

Interesting how Beckham is getting praise in his new role. He has only come up against the attacking midfield of Wales & N Ireland ffs.

If he plays that role against the likes of Brazil, Argentina and Italy England will get caned.

And boy am I looking forward to it.

Don't get me wrong, I pull for England, and watched every one of their games that is on TV over here. BUT England fans are among the most insuferable assholes I've ever come across, so I would be at least as happy if England failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Did anyone expect England to impress with a 4-5-1 system? They don't have the players to work it (pay attention Souey). Sven has got too confident about the team, we all know a full strength England will be 4-4-2 but he thought he could experiment against the lesser nations like Wales and England. He may have got away with it on Saturday and should've tonight but it is soley his fault England got beat. Friendlies are about experimenting, not about bringing on 10 players who are never going to start for England.

Because Becham doesnt want to play RM. He's never wanted to play RM. Being made England captain and having a manger with no backbone has given him the power to do what he wants as far as England goes. His personl performance are for the most part good but its always detrimental to the overall set up of the team. Everytime he had ideas above his station at Man U Fergie dropped him.

I think all my thoughts have already been summed up by others but I'll have my 2 minute rant anyway.

Although the majority of the team played complete shite I think the blame should sit well and truly with the swede.

4-5-1 didn't work against Wales so why play the same against N.Ireland?? We've got arguably one of the best strikers in Europe... probably the world with Rooney (despite the fact he's a tad immature and throws hissy fits every once in a while) so why the feck play him on the left of a 5 man midfield!?!?

I thought Beckham played quite well mopping up in front of the back four and spraying passes about... but then it was only against N.Ireland. SWP started off quite well on the right until the ludicrous decision to replace him with Joe fecking Cole! How this one man circus gets in the squad let alone on the pitch is a complete mystery to me - the twats got no discipline whatsoever. Against Wales he was supposed to be on the left, yet where did he appear most? Bloody centre! At least with SWP we had someone who could, and did on the odd occasion, get behind the N.Ireland defence. As soon as he went, so did Englands attacking options.

Then there was the most outrageous decision ever... Hargreaves on for Lampard. Oh dear! Did we have noone better on the bench than him? How on earth can Hargreaves get picked over Scotty Parker? Hell, I'd even play Jenas before Hargreaves. An England international with no first touch, I'm sure the rest of the world are shaking in their overpriced Nike boots!

So, to summarise, complete garbage and doesn't fill me with any confidence about finishing top of our group.

Freak result. Northern Ireland kicked the shit out of England, fair play to them it worked. England want their arses kicking for failing to break down a poor N. Ireland side. Saying that, when they have 10 men back and some sort of 8 man defensive line it's not easy. :D Sloppy goal, England got worse and more complacent as the game went on.

Anyway, now Owen plays for us expect a backlash of Shearer proportians against him.

By the way, how lost in the 80's were the NI fans? :dancing:

he has played well in that position against shite opposition who will never test the part of the role that he's unsuitable for. The decision to go with 3 central midfielders is purely to accomodate Beckhams ego. He wants to be a CM, he always has but he's not good enough. He cant dislodge either Gerrard or Lampard from that position on merit so we have the decision to go with three which is obviously to the detriment of other areas of the team.

It'll take a new manager to come in and have the balls to drop certain players if we are to achieve anyhting at the next world cup. Wont happen though. Sven wont resign from his 4 mill a year cushy number and the FA cant afford to sack him.
