I want to like Star Wars, I should like Star Wars, but since it was taken over by Disney it's essentially all generic garbage. No imagination at all, there was one series which featured a turf war between space mods and rockers ffs. Disney ruin everything. Even Dr Who is essentially Disneyfied now and consequently shit. 

 

Very little good sci fi out there nowadays. Especially "hard" Sci Fi (set in our universe and scientifically plausible). Prefer fantasy.

TBH Star Wars for me will always be Episodes 4-6 and possibly the prequels, but that's it. Everything since then, including 7-9 has been about milking the cash-cow as much as possible. Not a fan.

I despise prequels, they have absolutely no drama to them whatsoever. I also hate people who love prequels then cry about spoilers to films.

the acting and writing in the prequels is absolutely the worst in the franchise. Excruciatingly bad. They should have sacked the producer after the phantom menace. Lucas was given way too much license to do whatever he wanted

I didn’t mind 7. Proper nostalgic. 
 

The start and end of 8 are top notch but the casino scene etc is shit (as is Mary Poppins my Leia) so it lets it down.

 

9 is fucking awful.

Some beautiful scenery and effects in 7 but they weren't half taking the piss with the plot. It was a reboot without being a proper reboot. Set on tatooine, female skywalker, new death star, underpowered baddy, cameos from the old guard. Absolute chod, worse than the prequels for me.

Ep 1 had some okay light sabre fights and that race thing (okay, it also had jar jar binks and a lot of boring shite), 2 was better, 3 I quite liked aside from some ludicrous plot holes and some of the most hammy acting in history. 4 classic, 5 best, 6 teddy bears, 7 awful, 8 worse, 9 oh come on now fuck off. Film and TV spin offs, all shite. End.

the prequels died for me as soon as lucas made the absurd decision for it to revolve around a galactic trade dispute.

 

that's before you get to the overuse of greenscreen and early stage cgi, the painfully bad acting, clumsy direction, bloated editing, toe-curling love scenes - not to mention jar jar fucking binks.

1, 2 and 3 were shit because we weren't kids any more AND Lucas tried to provide all of the backstory at once

7,8 and 9 were shit because we aren't kids and the focus shifted back to selling toys and mass market appeal. Hence terrible writing and fan service.

 

Rogue One was really good Star Wars film for fans of the originals

Han Solo film was terrible.

 

Mandalorian is a decent tv show

Andor is really good

Ahsoka is pretty average

Boba Fett was terrible

Skeleton Crew was good fun, but very clearly a kids tv show

I didn't get far enough into the Acolyte to have an opinion, but maybe that's an indication.

The correct summary.

 

 

Andor and Rogue One are redeeming features in a shower of shite post Disney. 7,8 and 9 could have been good if the writing wasnt so lazy and if they'd let go of the emperor/skywalker obsession. Also enough with the freaking death stars ffs.

 

I thought epidode 3 was decent, maybe it was just the lightsaber duels and I was still a kid then. Less said about episode 1 the better.

Well this aftermoons discussion has convinced me I was 100% right to never watch any more after to original film

 

@Renton Apple TV is great for sci-fi.

 

Foundation, Silo and For all Mankind are all top tier. Could class Severamce as sci-fi too
