The Telegraph:

Newcastle United still courting Barry Moat as deal nears

A takeover deal that will end Mike Ashley's unhappy ownership of Newcastle remains on track, with Tyneside businessman Barry Moat edging closer to a deal.

Telegraph Sport understands that negotiations between Moat and Ashley, first disclosed here, are at an advanced stage and a deal could be closed next week.

The two sides are understood to be close to agreeing a price - Ashley is seeking £100 million - and Moat's finance is thought to be in place.

With the end of the transfer window looming Moat has been working towards a deal this week, and held crucial talks with the club's banker Barclays.

Newcastle currently rely on a £40 million facility from the bank to operate day-to-day, and Barclays would like to see it reduced as part of the deal.

Reducing the wage bill is a priority and the likely departure of three more players from Premier League wages in the coming days, including Stephen Taylor, may ease the bank's concerns.

Significantly Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias has acknowledged for the first time that a deal is close. Having repeatedly talked down Moat's prospects he said on Thursday the deal was "there or thereabouts".

If Moat is successful Alan Shearer will be installed as manager and will attempt to adjust the squad before the transfer window closes.

Whats depressing is the sub moron level of lots of fans .... couple of wins and everythings ok ...WELL ITS FUCKIN NOT OK ....OKAY !!??

may be better if you find a new passtime. Some of us have been here before and just want to enjoy the hear and now. (it could be a lot worse.

Ashley can't sell it, moat can't afford it and no one else wants it. Sooner some younger fans face reality that there are no quick fixes out there.

If we are lucky, we may be a yo yo club for some years, but even if we get promoted we are now one of those teams that will struggle to stay up due to lack of money.

No rich Arabs are coming to the rescue so I would suggest, like the majority of the 40,000 who turn up, you start enjoying our great start.

See ..its people like you that are the problem ..i bet you said the same shit in the McKeag / Seymour years didnt you ? "Ah just put up with it , man , you'll see" ... Well fuck that right in the eye ...lets face the problem - the problem is ASHLEY ...and the only real way to face a problem ..is to look it square in the eye ...and kick its fuckin teeth down its throat....

PS im 46 btw ...seen a lot of action ....

Your 46 and you come across as a nerd pinned down by the dark with some unknown revenge in which you exploit that by shooting up a school with your inevitable end.

Thats right, we're turning ourselves around on the pitch and perhaps might be progressing somewhere with the takeover. We're aren't saying things are ok, we're saying things are better and our league status proves it atm. The only moron I see here is you if you can;t at least see the players are pulling themselves around from whats happening off the pitch and performing well. Yes the main problem is Ashley but this will HOPEFULLY be solved soon.

Struggling for a reply? : )

Some people don't sit on the internet arguing all day you know. Perhaps he has better things to do, which is more than your doing.

46?

Your the moron, nothing is confirmed. We COULD be left with Ashley yes, we COULD be left with a thin squad, but right now which is confirmed is that we're top of the league and playing well, stop putting the mood down, think positive.
