Chris Hughton admits he will be holding talks with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley regarding summer plans. B)

With an immediate return to the Premier League already secure, the Magpies have started to turn their attention to life back in the top flight.

That is likely to mean reinforcements are drafted in over the summer as they look to strengthen and give themselves the best possible chance of staying up.

Hughton insists there will be no sweeping changes, as continuity is important, but he is looking to sit down with Ashley and decide on the best course of action.

"Plans, of course, will be worked on over the coming weeks and through the summer," he told Sky Sports News.

Momentum

"The most important thing at the moment is that we have got real competition in the squad for places. :)

"It's a squad that has been good enough to see us get promotion, good enough to see us through the season with the record we have had, and we have to be mindful of that.

"There have been sides that have gone down and come back up again and have fared relatively well  in the division without too much change.

"Those are the decisions we will have to make, but what we have got is a side that has got real good momentum at the moment."

He added: "The discussions will continue. We will have to look at the areas that we feel we need to strengthen, or have cover :) . They are the normal processes at any club.

"Like I say, the players we have at the moment are the players in pole position, they are the ones that are playing and they are the ones that are fighting for a position. But talks will continue right through the next few weeks and over the summer."quote]

Can they really fuck it up twice?

He's aware he'll get next to fuck all, because your mate Ashley has told him so.

I reckon 10m is set aside...But I can't see much more at this stage with all the signals coming out of the club.

current squad minus Enrique Jonas and collocini who will be sold (esp if Jonas has a decent world cup) with barely any of the funds obtained being reinvested.

Not sure why you think that they will leave / the club will want them to leave / they would want to leave having all committed to the club for a season in the fizzy pop league.

That's like indulging a lady in foreplay and leaving before the full sex starts!!

If decent replacements could be found (big 'if' like) I wouldn't mind either Argie being shipped out.

I would be loath to see Gutierrez go, he brings pace to the side, relieves the pressure when necessary and buys a lot of freekicks. Plus the alternative is Barton or Lovenkrands.

I'm also willing to give Coloccini a second chance at the Prem, he was consistently a solid centre half in La Liga, which is an excellent league. It wouldn't be the first person to need a season to adjust to a new league.

I take your points although I don't think Coloccini is particularly suited to the PL. He lacks a bit of pace and isn't great in the air. I'd worry they were replaced with inferior players anyway. Obviously you'd need a genuine wide man if Jonas left. And they aren't easy to find.

Virtually all of them were flops last year. Too good for the championship but not good enough for the premier league seems a fair assessment of the entire team just about, IMO.

If we don't get at least five quality players that can do a job in the premier league then we'll be fucked.

I think you can use the second season argument to be hopeful about Enrique and Collocini but in general I agree.
