Dr Gloom 21756
I doubt this is a last minute deal. But for how long was it in the offing? Was hughton sacked because he knew it was on the cards and squared up to the fat man. Did Carroll really hand in the transfer request or was it a face saving pr stunt by the fat man? Or was this really just an offer too good to refuse which a want away striker helped facilitate?

Ketsbaia 0
I don't believe there's any conspiracy. The club don't care what the fans think so I can't see why they'll have dreamt up some ridiculous scenario whereby Carroll hands in a transfer request but doesn't to make Ashley seem like the good guy. ChezGiven 0
The feedback from the specialist in Sweden was that the injury had a poor long term prognosis so the club incited a bidding war and sold him.

Pretty much as I see it. Club were holding out to get as much of the Torres £50mil as they could. ACs eyes turned to $$$$ so handed in the request to pocket the money. Barney 0
One of the toughest positions to find a replacement for too. Hence the ridiculous fees. Could the club have offered a newer contract? Could they have rejected the transfer request? They keep trotting out the reluctant to accept line.

Smooth Operator 10
Just listening to 5live in the car and one of the guests was saying he's not at all surprised at the move and that he'd personally been told last week by a current premier league manager that Carroll was for sale and that we were actively trying to sell him for upwards of 30 mill
Dr. Richard Kimble 0
Ashley was never going to let this go. - CH was fired because he wanted to keep Carroll and Ashley didn't like his politics anyway. - Puppet Pardeau was brought in - Jiver Kia Joorabchian was brought in - Carroll injury smokescreen was set up weeks ago to keep Liverpool happy. - Ashley makes coin - Newcastle fans are laughed at by Ashley and Llambias in a casino tonight. JawD 99
As per BBC fella on Twitter. People need to realise that club accepted Liverpool offer before transfer request from Carroll. Seems the request was done just to smooth the way for it to happen. Club let him know they would accept the offer, then he handed in request. OTF 7214
Let's see how long it takes him to return from injury. Carroll's head will have been turned in a big way by the wages. I'd assume he'll be on something upwards of 80k now. Torres to be on 200+ at Chelsea. The circle of life. Biggest problem we're faced with now is that Ashley is not going to reinvest the money. If he does try to reinvest some of it we're going to get poor players cause he's not willing to stump for competitive wages. Plus everyone will know we've just got a fat lump of cash so will try to get as much of it as they can, in the same way that Ashley did from Liverpool. Here's hoping plenty more allegations come out of the woods once the deal is officially inked. I hear Steven Taylor is preparing his case as we speak. Handing in a transfer request makes a massive difference as there are loyalty bonuses and other payments made to the player and his agent. But none of these apply if a transfer request is submitted. The club must have told the player they would only accept the offer if he handed in a transfer request. But make no mistake Carroll want the move as much as Ashley. Money talks. Have to wonder how he'll react to the pressure and sudden increased 'fame'. All signs indicate not well.
