Other than the market, is there any other good 2nd hand bookshops in town, or outside town ? I've been told there is a good one at Alnwick, bit of a trek but I suppose it would be a day out.

If you want a browsing experience then I don't know of anything to suggest, if you know what you want then Ebay is the best bet - people sell paperbacks for pennies.

bought a few I've been looking for on ebay recently. Fancied looking around some old bookshops like they had in Scarborough and Whitby. Might have a trip to Alnwick one day, I wondered if there was anywhere up the coast etc, I expect the rates etc in town will be too high for 2nd hand bookshops hence out of town is more likely.

There's no day out, but the best and biggest source of cheap second hand books is Abebooks.co.uk - they are a network of second hand books and claim to have over 140 million available.

I have found some very obscure French interest books through them. <_<

Does the one in the Grainger Market still do packs of 2nd hand porn mags btw? <_<

do you go looking under the counters too :D

I've never been in there for years (the bookshop anyway) but I always remember the Paul Raymond packs there. It was a good bookshop as well btw. The Amnesty International one is actually pretty good although I couldn't quite see you patronising the place. There's a British Red Cross one opposite the Civic too which is good (or is it Oxfam?). They're both quite expensive imo like when, as others have said, Amazon and Ebay is so cheap.

Real "wide boy" he was, and still is apparently even though he must be about 80 by now

I've just had a look at that and it looks very good with prices to easily match ebay and postage etc

Edit

I think I have only paid by credit card on there. Had no problems at all though. Books come from different places so delivery times vary.

I think I must be a book snerb, because I don't like second-hand books. Oh well, off I go to my enormous library with one of them ladders that's on runners.

toffee nosed git <_< I don't mind, I've got new books, 2nd hand, I'll read them from libraries, I'll lend them, borrow them.

I've got boxes full that I want to get rid of tbh, like my old LP's they are just taking up space and I'm not going to read them again.

I always used to laugh at sven's adult books as a nipper. I've yet to meet a Geordie called Sven. Must be some dirty old scandinavian type.

No flies on you like.
