Hes Muslim

Again, not of interest to Liverpool, so it's only a bargaining chip if the Saudi Clubs want to throw away money fighting against each other. There isn't a bigger drawcard than Ronaldo unless they got Messi there for a final showdown.

Having the most famous and successful Muslim footballer of all plying his trade in Saudi Arabia is perhaps the biggest drawcard of the lot tbh.

Salah is probably the most high profile Muslim footballer like.

It's worth asking though, do we just think that because he's the one who plays in the PL and Sky adore him? Fair enough if it's totally global but for all I know Dembele could be far more prominent given he's just won the Ballon d'Or

I've never said he's not a drawcard, but there's no way he's anywhere near as big a drawcard as Ronaldo. They're trying to grow the Saudi PL outside of SA and in most of the developed world a footballer's religious beliefs do not factor into support at all. My point has always been that unless there's a Saudi driven buying war Salah has limited appeal world wide and especially in terms of a transfer fee they'd be foolish to throw away good money on a player with a limited career remaining, already on a steep decline. If there was to be a bidding war it's more likely to be on the wages front.

In the last couple of years the Saudi teams have focused on bringing in players in their mid 20s and even younger because they know that paying big fees and wages on players in the twilight of their careers is financial suicide. The purse strings are being tightened now that the quality of the league has been massively improved and they're trying to lure players with the supposed appeal of living in Saudi Arabia as well as a tidy but not ridiculous wage.

I don't think we can dismiss the fact that he is playing for Liverpool, in the PL on Sky. That is part and parcel of his appeal. The Premier League is the biggest league in the world, Liverpool are current Champions and arguably one of the biggest clubs on the planet. Which is why any player plying their trade there will have greater renown than one playing in the Saudi league (Benzema e.g. ).

Salah has more Instagram followers than Manchester United. He's massive.

Jings, you'd have utterly destroyed my argument if I'd only mentioned social media followers.

Aye, I had to go to Saudi a few times over the last few years. I’m not sure him being muslim is as much of a draw as everyone thinks it is. The Saudis care about Saudis, first and foremost. The Saudis, Emiratis, Qataris etc tend to look down their nose at Egyptians, Jordanians, Syrians etc.
