Simpson was against Bale, like it or not one of the most difficult wingers to face in the league. He did well, if beaten a couple of times, like a competent if not excellent defender would.

If he was going a whole game without being made a fool of by Bale/Lennon he wouldn't be playing for us that's for sure.

It wasn't just the papers doing their thing like, cos Pardew seemed to think he was on his way too on that Radio Newcastle interview a while back.

I agree. Either way, makes no sense to get rid of him because we'd get no real cash for him. He's relatively cheap, he's versatile and was a big part of last season. Of course we'd like to see Debuchy or Pieters ahead of him, but he's one of those players who, if I see him on the team sheet, I don't worry at all. I worry less than I do when I see Perch.

Santon was up against Bale/Lennon, too. I only recall one instant where he got done - was in the first half by Lennon.

I don't think anyone is saying Simpson is a shite player; more that his area is the most obvious for us to improve.

We might just get a striker and go with what we have until January.

Some morons/WUMs are though. He is what he is, a competent rb who even if we got Debuchy/Pieters would be decent as back up.

Seems on the internet you're either Godlike or shite sometimes (not aimed at you Chron btw)

Mirror reporting CFC are to make a bid for Tiote and MUFC for Cabaye.

Ive said it from day one like, I still think Tiote will go. If we get Pieters and Carroll on top of Anita Ill not be too upset though.

Why would Tiote go? It would show no ambition from the club to push on by selling its best players. Edited by 2bias

This is going to be the big fear for the next two weeks. Cabaye to Man u wouldn't surprise me in the least.

From 25th July

LONDON - The foot fracture of left-back Erik Pieters of PSV is healed. The defender had an appointment with the specialist Monday and said that he no longer cast on his leg have to walk.

Pieters in the coming weeks a special shoe wear and then gently begin again. "I'm on schedule,"

Good question, why would anybody want to sign for the European Champions, playing in one of the world's best cities, famous for having money falling out of its arse?

He has repeatedly said he wants to stay, unless a club puts up £30 plus million why would the club let him. The only rumours saying he is going seem to be coming from this forum.

If anyone was going to bid for Tiote surely it would be Arsenal. They have cashed in £40 million in the last week alone and one of those who left was their best DM.

I'm sure he does, but Chelsea could quite possibly turn his head. The fact we've signed Anita (over more obvious areas we need to strengthen) could indicate Tiote might be off.

We've just beaten Tottenham, a team who have featured in Europe regularly in the past few seasons. We're in Europe ourselves and finished 5th last term. Obviously Tiote is desperate to leave. For fuck sake.

He's only going to go if someone offers a stupid fee for him. If he does then he's going to a bigger club so you can't blame him, but he's not going anywhere tbh.

Why would ManUre sign Cabaye now when they've spent all that money on Kagawa? Given all the earlier business Red Nose did I think Cabaye would have gone at the start of the window, not as a panic buy.

Tbf no one is saying he is desperate. But i agree if someone like Chelsea came knocking they can turn his head.

Of course we offer a lot compared to some, but not Champions League or 100k pw.

No way Arsenal will spunk £20 on a defensive midfielder IMO. Doesn't matter how much money they've just brought in. They'd already spent the RVP money anyway.

Why are you lot still talking about the Mirror's made up nonsense?

Don't worry about it. It's a Mirror article. I read it and I think they used Pardew's quotes about selling big names for silly money if the offer comes in as the basis to fabricate a story about two clubs doing just that for Cabaye and Tiote.

If Tiote is to leave it will be for either Arsenal or Chelsea who both need a player of his ilk. Will Arsenal spend 25mil though? Will Chelsea after how much they've spent already. I think Tiote leaving is unlikely.

Cabaye leaving is even less likely. Like Tiote it would have to be a team in the CL. Chelsea dont need him, Man Utd have Kagawa and just spent 25mil on RVP, Man City dont need him and neither.

I dont think we will lose any of our key players now.

In the same token i think we are going to stick with Simpson at RB and run with Saylor, Willo, Colo and Perchinio as CB's until Janurary. Dangerous but could be ok if we are lucky with injuries.

We do need a FB, CB and striker but i think we will only get a striker and look at it again (Debuchy + CB) in January.
