He was talking about the two fingers to the establishment effect that the vote has had and how he didn't realise how out of touch he was with public feeling.

He was talking shite anyway.

Regrading Peston, the anti-establishment votes in the north etc will have affected the result but it keeps getting ignored that most leave votes were in the south outside London where the only real "excuse" is pig ignorance and racism.

I’d day that’s a fairly accurate summary: the liberal metropolitan elite were out of touch. They were clouded in their echo chambers and failed to see it coming.

That doesn’t mean the leavers won the argument. They were protest voting, quite rightly in many cases, against the establishment and sticking two fingers up to the posh boys in Downing Street, but unfortunately they chose the wrong institution to go after and the poorest people who voted Brexit are the ones who will unfortunately see their already shit living standards hit hardest.

Yes, it’s those voters, who deserve the most criticism. Especially the older ones who have shafted future generations.

It mirrors Trump. The anti-establishment vote was/is valid in terms of those groups being fucked over but the well off who voted that way have in a sense got away with it

And, once more, they get absolved of too much grief because people like to punch down these days

like peston said in the article i linked to, it was the coalition of those two voter groups that won the referendum.

Aye, it's getting on my tits how brexit is being solely blamed on the North when you've got any amount of southern towns going for it.

If we're talking England and Wales it was, more or less, everywhere bar London and a few other cities

If he's right about the economic shock element, it could be enough to kick us into another GE. And tbh, at this point, we need as much damage to happen as possible before we're out in order to give us the best possible chance of turning it around again.
