Dr Gloom 26306
the squeezed middle have ben shafted again by the freeze in the income tax personal allowance. so much for not raising taxes on working people. it's exactly what she's done by stealth. she's also added NI to pension contributions. so retirement for a lot of ordinary people is set to get even leaner. are these really labour policies?

Scrapped cap on child benefit, "mansion tax", tax on rental properties, minimum wage and younger people's wages increased? On balance I'd say yes, but she really can't win.

Depends if your definition of 'working people' matches what Labour consider it to be. Salary under £45K isn't it? Agree with Renton's synopsis. It's shit, but the amount of times I've heard people on here say they'd be happy to pay more tax if it went on services, and then they actually get taxed and moan like fuck. Basically it comes down to whether you believe fiscal responsibility (balancing the books) is important or not. As we as a country spend more now on debt interest than education, I'd say it was quite important whatever Polanski has us believe.

But also very fortunate to not be remotely struggling, so I get it for those that are and that have just been made poorer by this. I do think there has to be a better way than just continuing to take from the masses and do very little about the multi multi billionaires who are just hoarding resources.

There's a strong argument that all of us should contribute to society by paying tax. Some people over the next few years will lose some of their personal allowance and perhaps pay tax for the first time. I can live with that. After all the hype this more strikes me as a does fuck all budget tbh, but that was pretty much on the ticket. If we finally get some growth, we'll be okay. If not, we'll get Farage. Hurray. But if nothing is done then more and more of the resources will go to these few hundred individuals, and the rest of us (including governments) will get poorer and society will continue to fall apart. These people literally have "fix an entire country" money. And they're getting exponentially richer.

I stopped listening to it regularly, but Oh God What Now is worth a listen this week about how the tech bros are screwing us over and creating a complete shitocracy. Only solution I can think of if for Europe to somehow get uts act together and become self sufficient from the US and China. UK is far too small to go this alone. More likely is we are heading for a new era of dystopia and servitude imo. Edited November 26 by Renton

Rayvin 8295
I think for me I just keep eyeing the exit with greater intensity. I don't mind paying more tax to fund services. I do mind paying more tax to fund fuck ups like Brexit. But beyond even that.. wages are stagnant and this country is insanely expensive to live in. Younger people absolutely should get out and start up somewhere else if they can, they might even have futures then.
