Sean Dyche's side were slow to get going on Saturday at home to Aston Villa, falling 1-0 behind to Joe Cole's first-half goal. But the home side responded strongly after the interval to draw level through Ings' penalty three minutes from time. The England Under-21 forward almost snatched a third successive victory for Burnley at the end, but struck a post and he knows his team-mates cannot afford another poor opening as Newcastle visit Turf Moor. "The lads are confident at the moment, we've got to take confidence out of the last three games," he told Burnley's website. "The Premier League is the toughest league in the world and we're really competing now so it's well done to the boys. "Last year we were always good under the lights on a Tuesday night so it's going to be tough for Newcastle to come here and put on a performance against us. But we can't start like we did [against Villa]. With all due respect they [Newcastle] have got more quality than the team we played [on Saturday]. So it's important that we're on the front foot and we take the game to them." The hosts are concerned about the fitness of defender Michael Duff, who missed the Villa match with a calf strain and was replaced by Manchester United loanee Michael Keane. Matt Taylor (Achilles) and Sam Vokes (knee) remain longer-term absentees. Alan Pardew, meanwhile, will be without Moussa Sissoko, who was sent off in Saturday's 1-0 defeat by West Ham United and Jack Colback, after he was shown a fifth yellow card of the season at Upton Park. Goalkeeper Tim Krul (ankle) is another certain to miss out, as are Ryan Taylor (knee) and Gabriel Obertan (thigh). Steven Taylor came off the bench at West Ham after recovering from a knock, while defensive colleague Fabricio Coloccini could be back in contention after a thigh problem. The defeat at Upton Park ended a run of six straight victories for the club in all competitions, and Cheick Tiote was not too disheartened heading into their midweek clash. "This is football and we will take the good parts of our performance into Tuesday night at Burnley," he told the club's website. "It is important to remember that we won our last six games. We are in a good position, in good condition and if we win on Tuesday then one defeat in this game is not too bad. "We will do everything we can to come back against Burnley - it is a very important game." MATCH FACTS Head-to-head This is the first ever Premier League meeting between these sides. I'm quite glad they're on a decent run as if they were still waiting for their first win, there's nothing more certain than us obliging. I am concerned about the amount of injuries we currently have and Goufrran getting back in the team on Saturday. I'm hoping Aarons is fit but I doubt he'd be able to start if he is. We don't have another right back that I'm aware of that can fill his position. Tiote left the game too but I'm hoping that wasn't because of an injury that would make him unavailable. I'm concerned that Pardew will get it wrong again like he did against West Ham. Dropping Cabella and starting Gouffran was typical Pardew stupidity. Andrew 4283 Posted December 2, 2014 Share Posted December 2, 2014 This ought to be interesting, away but against a lesser team, as we going to sit back and hope to strike on the counter against a side that probably won't actually over commit to attacking us (my guess) and come away with a "fantastic point at a tough ground" (or some other such managerial bollocks) after a dire bore draw or are we going to try to control the game without Sissoko and Colback in midfield, meaning we're not likely to be able to play our most successful system of the season? Will he be adventurous and try 2 up front (cisse and perez I suppose) with a midfield of tiote, anita, cabella and ameobi? That might work against this Burnley side. Blob is out tonight as he or his partner is giving birth. Woodman will make the bench and Alnwick will deputize. I rate Woodman higher than Alnwich, but feel the latter is more suited to the first team at this stage. Good experience for Woodman though. Streete and Satka might get time tonight.
