Diane Abbott is an idiot though. If it weren't for the fact she's a strong Corbynite she wouldn't be anywhere near the shadow cabinet.

She's been annihilated all day for it. Meanwhile when the prime minister literally has no fuckin idea where she is its met with comparative silence. Both guilty of being woefully unprepared for being under the media spotlight. Both treated complelty differently by the media. Abbot cones across like a jumped up back office social worker supervisor type. May seems like the elderly doctor who you dread seeing but there's no one else available :cuppa:

I suspect they feel they have to be credible in their own right. Maybe they've looked at it and think they can win the seats that they would have to compromise on anyway, but who knows.

To be honest, if you concluded that Labour's position here is that they need to preserve themselves rather than win, avoiding an alliance would make sense.

Corbyn's campaigning having a positive effect, or May's switching people off?

The problem is, the closer it gets, the more rabid the RW press will become.

The fact is that Labour under Corbyn is a joke and the failure of the party to galvanise strong campaign goals shows they have no clue what they are and who the actually represent (outside the Londonista circle jerk). For someone with supposed lefty credentials it beggers belief that a 2nd refrendum or desire to cancel Brexit is never mentioned by the leadership. Even Starmer is very careful not to rile the unwashed. I have held out for Corby long enough...They can't even do proper costings fffs! The polls have probably closed a tiny bit because of May's EU related gaffs.

Increasing the number of police is a Tory election tactic of days gone by. Is rail nationalisation an election promise? Is it in the manifesto?

Just another example of decent policies being totally wasted if you can't articulate them properly though.

Aye.  But as someone pointed out, May can't even remember which town she's in and Boris can't stutter his way to the end of a sentence without a racial slur popping out, so it's not as if they're challenging slick and well drilled incumbents.

At least labour have the decent policies going for them.

Is that how they are going to win. Garnering e mail addresses by stealth? Joke.

It's obvious re-nationalisation of public assests isn't in it or the right wing media would be all over it. ;)

But Corbyn has pledged it, so they would surely be all over it until the manifesto came out?

Railways

Another policy where there are parallels with Miliband, but perhaps this time without the caveats. A pledge to return the railways to public ownership was one of Corbyn’s first policy announcements as leader and it is popular with the public. Miliband showed support for it in an interview with LabourList before the 2015 general election, although Labour’s offer last time around focussed on giving state-run companies a place in the bidding process.

Most of the policies are MOR.

The sheer fact that I'm having to hunt around looking for something more than a 'pledge' tells you everything you need to know. It won't happen. I saw SNCF on London buses last week  ffs!

I agree. That's the frustrating thing where the government are not just nasty cunts but they're incompetent with it. Yet still the opposition fail to capitalise. There is an undoubted media bias against the opposition but part of that is down to Corbyn's decision not to play their game (or perhaps that's being too kind and it's just an inabiltity to do so). Abbott is quite simply out of her depth in the heat of battle and personifies the wider issue Labour have with getting their message across. Parky's also right about the lack of a message / identity too though. I do agree with that piece someone posted on here recently saying now is the time more than ever not to abandon Labour, given the alternative.
