If he can't get into our side, I'm not sure why Man City would want him. Plus the obvious point that PL makes of that club being a fucking graveyard for young promising English players.

Trafford's situation is a fucking disgrace. That kid should be allowed to leave on the relative cheap in January after the shit they pulled in the summer.

Agreed. And even the bitter old cunt in me can’t blame him for going there instead of here when he did. He probably thought he was nailing down the England spot as well and now he’s largely frozen out of that and first team football after they signed Donnarumma. It’s not even like he’ll take over soon as Donnarumma‘s only in his mid 20s too

Aye he would absolutely have picked them over us, and that's fine. It was our fault for messing about the previous summer, and Mitchell's fault for supposedly then putting their owner's nose out of joint.

But my understanding of the contract tie-up that Man City had on Trafford basically precluded him from having a choice. So he had to go back there, and within a month he was consigned to the bench.

It's proper fucking Death Star shit from Man City.

Could he have not simply turned down the contract?  Or is that me being too simple?

Press play, it'll start at the right bit. Downie explaining how Man City out Trafford in a position where his only option was to return there, due to this matching clause they had in his contract.

The contract stipulated that Man City be made aware of any bid accepted and given a time frame to match that bid, which would then automatically be accepted. It was still up to the player to decide who to join. But he was always going to choose City over us, he'd have been mad not to at the time. Of course if he'd known that they were going to sign Donnaruma then he probably would have made a different decision.

You need to be in their position to do stuff like that though. Not like the Anderson situation, for example

Aye, I did say he'd have chosen them over us, of course he would.

But Downie gives a different interpretation of the contractual situation to you.

But regardless, the point is that, having signed Trafford surely there's some duty towards the player that has just picked you to not just immediately replace him within a month. It's shady as fuck.

The lad needs to play. If you can't give him that, get a 30 year old who is happy to warm the bench. Sooner or later, I would hope that these sort of practices will come back to bite them.

Downie's interpretation is entirely incorrect. Unless you hold the player's registration then you cannot force him to come back to play for you, you just can't.

What Man City did was cut throat. They bought Trafford with the hope that he would compete with Ederson and go on to become world class. They were forced into making a decision on him because our bid was accepted. However, when the opportunity came along to sign one of the world's best goalkeepers for a relative pittance they took it. It's unfortunate for the lad a club like Man City are always going to do what is best for them.

Smacks to me of Man City having no idea that Donnarumma was available or an option. I reckon they genuinely believed they were going into the season with Trafford as number one.

Re: Anderson, I can see him going there. It's not so much about "why would he go to Man City if he couldn't get into our side". Rodri is fucked and they need a replacement IMO. Half surprised they're not showing an interest in Bruno tbh.

That's my thinking too.  He will 'replace' Rodri

first thing I had to do when we moved was spend £15k on having the old septic tank collapsed and a new one put in. bloke was in there with a small jcb for a week and completely destroyed the garden by the time he'd finished. looked like fucking glastonbury on a really, really muddy year.

still looked better than downie's mind.

I mean, there's a full schedule of games planned for Saturday 27th. Is this really a massive issue?

Don't recall there being issue when they dropped Easter Monday games - Easter weekends used to be brilliant for football.

It'll be cos hardly anyone celebrates boxing day, so nowhere else is on holiday, which impacts TV audiences presumably.

Works fine this time cos the 27th falls on a Sat, but where Boxing Day falls in the middle of the week, they'll still have to do it on the day or else they won't be able to fit all the games in over the Xmas period.
