I'd quite like my image posting priveleges back at some point. Happy for all my old stuff to do the journey but completely unfeasible for me to delete them one by one.

Does the snipboard thing not suffice? Admittedly it's a few extra clicks and it'd be good if it was integrated somehow, but overall if it keeps the performance up I'm happy to go with the few extra clicks.

Why not just 'Copy Link to Image' from wherever you are getting it and then just paste that in the post, like posting tweets. Or do people actually have images stored on their PCs that they're uploading Angry Oh No GIF by CBC

So was the picture thing just a red herring.

Not quite, it's not the root cause but doesn't help, between that and missing files and other bits and bobs, death by a thousand cuts.

for example, someone uploading a picture of their telly to show the score in the top corner, was 3mb ...

yes everyones got fast connections, but the server has to dole that stuff out if it's hosted here, that's overhead, queue multiple people posting pictures of their tvs from their 4k camera smartphones, server loads that page for everyone, with all the pictures

more overhead, you can shift that by those pictures not being "on here" but hosted elsewhere, as meenzer pointed out. Back in the day those services weren't readily available so it was made handy for people here by giving them space, it's been a decade or more and it's an issue now

anyway i've bulk compressed every image on the thing to get around 10-25% reductions for the worst offenders (the offending tv picture was 2.5mb and is now 800kbs for example) (i did this after it was looking faster anyway)

+ a bunch of other tweaks, touch wood so far it's looking like it's worked, needs to be left alone for a few days to see.

But as mentioned there's other issues i'll leave with the lads to discuss / implement

Everyone hated change when it came the first time around, prob 15yrs ago  then were all elated with it, now you're all old as fuck and due another round ya won't like initially but it is what it is

(but ya can blame andrew this time round)

I remember years ago having to upload stuff to photobucket (I still get emails), can we not just turn on that function that deletes all pictures after 14 days.

anyway, glad you’re still alive and you should post more

Oh the irony. We now have AI generated imagery but we have to upload them through a third party site!

Problem for me is I only post on here from my phone. Was a piece of piss when I could do it directly from my phone photos, but it's an added layer of complexity with a hosting site I can't be chewed with. So it'll be text only or generic gifs for me from now I'm guessing.

It's a couple of extra clicks to use snipboard, you know. It's barely any hassle at all. And i only ever post from a phone too.

Ahh right, will give it a go. The link Meenz gave was very desk top orientated.
