Yeah, I went off on a separate point. I wasnt really arguing the point as they were a good partnership and both mobile. I do think they benefited from wingers getting the ball in the box from wide though.

Shawcross is decently defensively but nothing special on the ball. I thought he might come on a bit with Hughes as they never played out from the back with the Pulis but it looks like he is limited.

I dont think you can use one game to point out the benefits of a formation. Anyway the game has changed so much, especially since the advent of attacking midfielders that can both pack the midfield yet notch 10-15 goals per position. The teams like us that play that formation and don't have the goal input from those positions tend to struggle. Edit: Plus our defence is shite.

Ferdinand was lightening and surprisingly wasnt even 6 foot. In fact Shearer was under 6ft as well- I thnk (although Wikipedia have him at 6ft on the dot). Im just nit picking with that point though. Both were strong as an ox and had great aerial ability.

That might have just been to shoe-horn Keegans preferred players into the team though. Beardsley was wasted on the wing. Same with Asprilla.

So you're saying that Cisse was an integral part of the team but you'd rather just discard him ? His behaviour and fitness before that season haven't been cause to complain which suggests its a one off.

I reckon there is a player in Abeid as well. However, I dont think he is going to get a run of games to prove it. I'd much rather give him playing time than Anita.

I have no problem with Colback being in the team. He keeps things ticking over quite nicely in my opinion.

Anita doesn't have the ability to boss a PL midfield like Tiote. I'd rather give Abeid a chance than Anita. He just isnt suited to the PL unfortunately. Seems like a nice guy but he needs a move. Tiote was excellent a few years ago. He might need a move himself but if he is motivated and played in his correct position then he would start for me.

Give him time. Shola had a good 10 years to become lovable.

Ha. Dont get me wrong. I thought his time was up but I dont think he isn't the managerial prat people think he is. That was evident when we actually had a prat in charge after him. Its just not sustainable to sell your best players without replacing them then expect a similar league position.
