  1. If he gets another job he's going to take some shifting as the biggest fraud going.
  2. Apparently the pay off was lower because he took the Derby job within a few months. Thanks, Derby.
  3. I don't get this "I won't play for any other club" stuff. Is life just that much better at Old Trafford than anywhere else? You see players like Dirk Kuyt who's been more than happy to take a pay cut and go back to Feyenoord. He could do a really good job for us next season.
  4. That is quite surprising. Do you reckon they thought it was buried enough not to be noticed widely? Or perhaps they are just comfortable with spending decent money this summer...
  5. Sorted. I've heard there's a great centre half in Ligue 1 who might be available. Mapou something or other...
  6. He hasn't looked the same player since he got injured against Brentford. Hoping he can get back up to speed for next season, but I'd have doubts he'd be able to lead the line as our first choice striker with this injury record.
  7. Agreed, I think the best course of action is to try and bring in one top-tier centre back (yeah, simple as that) to play alongside Clarke. Lascelles would the be third choice and maybe even keep Hanley as fourth choice? Doubt Mbemba will stick around to be a reserve.
  8. There were times Mbemba looked really confident on the ball on Saturday, but some of his marking and that moment where he gave the ball away on the edge of the box were criminal. I think there's a good player there somewhere, but the fact Rafa has struggled to place any trust in him makes me doubt his future lies here.
  9. I just can't wait for next season when hopefully the whingers will be realistic enough to know we won't win every game. I think most of us here appreciate we don't have a brilliant squad. Rafa has wrung the most out of them and we are almost guaranteed to go up. Can you imagine where we'd be right now if McClaren were in charge? There will need to be some very astute signings this summer but I've got faith in Rafa to do that. It'd be disappointing to finish 2nd, but I think a good way to view it is as 1st at 100%, 2nd 99% and 3rd 40% satisfaction.
  10. To be fair I think we held a decent hand with Sissoko. Rafa came out and said he wanted him to stay, and we didn't really need the money - we'd have just about broken even without selling him. I do rate Pickford, but I'd agree he won't be making a move to a top 6 club. Everton would probably be a decent shout - that Robles is absolutely hopeless. I could see him going for around the £15m mark. EDIT: Actually, scrap that. Hot young English talent? That'll be enough to bump it to £20m IMO.
  11. Can't stomach lager at all anymore. Usually go for a decent IPA. I did have one Guinness last Paddy's day as it seemed like the right thing to do. One's more than enough
  12. I like how Charnley has basically said we wouldn't have had any money last summer if it weren't for the owner. Forgetting, of course, that he should shoulder a fair amount of blame for us ever being relegated in the first place. We still made a small profit over this period, but next year's results will be the painful ones. It shouldn't matter too much if we have been promoted by then like.
  13. Good Friday, resurrection and all that. Just looking at the form table, both Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham are stuttering. Fulham have only won once since beating us - against Rotherham! I actually wouldn't rule out Preston at this stage. 19 from their last 10 and 5 points behind with 6 games to go...
  14. I've seen today that we could have actually demanded the match be replayed had we not won. Unbelievable stuff. Anyway, we can be happy with the result which moves us to within 4 wins of the Premier League. If we win in Sheffield I think we're virtually there.
  15. Fulham are probably the best side we've played. They tonked Huddersfield and Reading at home in October / November, but have been maddeningly inconsistent at times this season. For example, they've drawn at home to Blackburn, lost at home to Wolves and scraped a 1-0 at Rotherham since beating us. Huddersfield might have the setup to do it if they can recover their form by the end of the season. I'm almost certain now the top two will be us and Brighton, I'm just not sure on the order.
  16. Do these and we're almost there. I don't think it's going to be pretty but I'm going 2-0.
  17. There's something in that, adios. What didn't help was that he got almost all of his signings right to begin with (Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Remy, Ba) and almost all of them wrong towards the end (Cabella, Thauvin, Riviere, Doumbia etc). There are all kinds of reasons for that, and a lot of caveats to it as well, but while I'm willing to accept there will always be a number of transfers that don't come off, we were left with a squad that was woefully ill-equipped in our last two seasons in the PL. Whether that was more to do with the remit Ashley gave him or his own judgement, I'm not so sure.
  18. I'm pretty sure there was a period last summer where everyone thought he'd already gone. Then he suddenly resurfaced. And it definitely sounds like he was muttering in Ashley's ear over signings in Jan. Funny thing is that he did make some good signings. But even if, for example, Riviere was recommended as a backup, what kind of backup is that?
  19. Just been chatting with a Brighton fan at work. Safe to say we're both pleased with Huddersfield's meltdown What I thought was interesting, though, is that he took a similar view to what we've been saying. They ground out the win at the weekend, and haven't really been playing that well. But it doesn't really matter at this stage. Looking at it pragmatically, we should now be promoted. But I'm not counting anything yet. Burton have acquitted themselves well in a lot of games - we need to take 3 points from them before the two tougher matches. If anything, I can see us sealing the deal against Wednesday and Leeds as we tend to do better in those fixtures.
  20. Has it not enhanced other sports? If anything, the Hawkeye decisions at Wimbledon liven up the matches. Same can be said for try award decisions in rugby. I don't see why stopping the game for 30 seconds would cause any problem at all. You'd only ever use it for goals. I think back to that game at Old Trafford a few years back, where we lost 4-3, and I think Johnny Evans scored an own goal to give us the lead. Originally it was given as offside but then overturned after about 30 seconds. Did that really detract from the game? Or were we pleased the ref consulted with his linesmen to make the right decision?
  21. We'll have a full-strength line up and I think we'll come back reinvigorated. I believe Wigan have changed manager, but the reality is that we have 11 better players. We'll do 'em 2-0.
  22. Tottenham looking to sell him for around £20m this summer, apparently. Want rid ASAP - seems as though Poch doesn't like him. He's now out of the France squad altogether (he made every single France squad while he was here). And has told the French media he will only stay at Spurs if the manager leaves Apologies for source - but the original is from L'Equipe: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3167136/tottenham-ready-to-cut-their-losses-on-30m-flop-moussa-sissoko-and-flog-him-this-summer/
  23. Agreed Son is fanciful - he seems to be first replacement if Kane, Eriksen or Alli are injured. But from what we're saying, we could have pretty decent attacking options with an outlay of probably £25m. I'd then want to see a good midfield 'destroyer' to play alongside Shelvey, and a top quality centre back as priorities. If we got those and started the season with Dummett at left back I wouldn't be that displeased. As for Shelvey, definitely think he's a very good PL player if managed properly.
  24. The longer the season has gone on, the more I see the limitations of our squad. There are some players I'd say are good rotation options, but the only players I'd definitely trust next season are: Krul / Darlow / Elliot, Yedlin, Ritchie, Shelvey, Gayle. So that's four outfield players, and we can't really be sure if Gayle will fire in the goals in the PL. Players like Lascelles, Clarke, Dummett, Hayden, Atsu, Diame, Mitrovic and Perez I'd want us to keep either as rotation options or playing alongside better players. For instance I wouldn't mind seeing Lascelles or Clarke play alongside a Jose Fonte type centre back, but if the two of them lined up together I'd be a bit worried. I honestly think if we could add a top quality number 10 that would solve a lot of our problems. How much would Swansea want for Sigurdsson? Could we snatch Son from Tottenham? I notice Ritchie has played on the left a few times lately - a 'forward line' of Ritchie on the left, Townsend on the right, and Sigurdsson in behind Gayle would satisfy me.
  25. With Fish on the relative quality of the squad now to 09/10. We went down with a squad that had been in Europe for about 6 years in a row til the season before we got relegated. As for Rafa, as most everyone has said, it depends on how much backing he gets this summer. I do feel he owes the club and the fans something, and even if he were royally f*cked off in January, would be the kind of guy that would stick it out and get us promoted before walking. Ideal scenario is we go up with Rafa and suddenly look a much more attractive asset for potential new owners.
