  1. Never condemned the Dardenelles to a good lashing so that's a plus, surely.
  2. Finally somewhere for all those 16 yo mackem mothers to enjoy the derby. Seriously though isn't this a good thing?
  3. Yeah I tend to agree. There's no need to panic with Nolan having two years left. There's a distinct possibility that he will except a contract at the end of next season and if he doesn't play well the terms could be less lucrative from his perspective. Just the media trying to heap the misery on us following the Enrique/Barton contract problems imo.
  4. The longer this drags on the less likely he is to sign for us imo. As far as the financial restrictions go there must be some sort of loophole because from my understanding the likes of Man City should have cut spending already as spending from past seasons are going to be taken into account once these restrictions come into place. Either I'm misunderstanding the regulations or Man City et al are already fucked. I know whats more likely.
  5. Not sure why? As good as any other rumour and a one that would make sense / Big Sam / Nolans championship performance etc. You live in a world where every rumour is as good as any.
  6. ... ... ... 18th Liverpoooool ... ...
  7. Yeah fair enough. Regardless if everything works out well, and Nolan holds his form, we could have a very impressive midfield next season. Big 'if' there however, if supporting Newcastle has taught me anything its that pessimism is the safest mindset.
  8. Nowhere near PL standard. To me he scores simple goals as a pure finisher. That kind of player does well against second/third rate defences but not against PL defences unless they are something special like Owen (*shudder*) was a long time ago, for example. Could see him doing well for a midtable Championship side but thats about it.
  9. I agree that he is best in a midfield 3 but I think he is best as the attacking point of a midfield 3 but Ben Arfa will be playing that role next season. I could be wrong, I often am, but from my observations when Nolan has played deeper in the past in an effort to gain control of the midfield against the bigger teams, rather than get into the box as often as possible, he has really struggled and almost been anonymous. Especially in games where we were missing Tiote, but obviously that goes without saying. Aside from that I think that since Barton has been played wide right for most the season I see this Cabaye fella as a replacement for Nolan rather than a replacement for Barton, which is what alot of journos are reporting, as though Cabaye's signing is the final sign of Barton's imminent departure.
  10. Yeah. I can't see him staying. I realise that its in neither parties interest to come out and say that he won't be at Newcastle next season. I think the frustrating part for me is that everyone that supports the club has pretty much given up on him staying but that little sliver of hope remains until the time when he is finally sold. Its just the way things are done I suppose and its noones fault. It seems to be the best way for everybody involved to maximise their financial gain. Still grinds my gears though.
  11. Yeah well there's that too. Even the likes of Australia or the US (due to the relative popularity of Football in those countries) don't really deserve equal voting rights compared to the likes of Brazil even without mentioning the minor nations.
  12. Your right. But I didn't mean make it clear publically since that would obviously do more damage. I meant make it clear to the club so rather waste time trying to reach an agreement we could start looking for a replacement. I'm sure the club has a contingency plan. But honestly if we lose Enrique then left back becomes our no. 1 priority, even more so than our lack of a quality striker. I'll check back with your feelings on Enrique when he refuses the contract offered to him again and we sell him to Liverpool for £10mill in August.
  13. Yep. That's exactly it. Despite its appearance as a more democratic system it in fact only opens the whole thing up to even more corruption.
  14. More or less but I think he is better in the hole and with Ben Arfa playing that role next season probably in a 4-5-1 Nolan will play a bit deeper in midfield, probably. I don't think he has the legs for that job and its only going to get worse as the years catch up with him. I could be wrong. But thats the shape I would imagine we are looking at next season with Ben Arfa coming back into the side.
  15. With Blatter being a former journo you just know you can't trust anything the guy says. Professional truth twister. By the by, giving all 208 members a vote is perhaps the stupidest idea this guy has come up with. Gives the impression outwardly of being more open and democratic when the exact opposite is true.
  16. Very hard to find any justification for how this guy can be better than Joey. Although he could be better than Nolan is in midfield, as Nolan is not really all that effective as a straightout midfielder. And Nolan will be playing deeper next year with Ben Arfa playing behind the striker so I don't really see Nolan getting in the side as a first choice if this guy is signed and performs well.
  17. This kind of drag on with contracts is the kind of thing that could make him public enemy no. 1 should he leave. If he has no intention of signing then he should make that clear so he can be sold and replaced quickly. Not fuck around with trying to milk every last penny out of the contract negotiations when he knows full well what the club will be prepared to offer. This sort of shit pisses me off no end.
  18. Would be great if we could sign him. Still has a lot to offer, especially considering hes not the kind of player who relies on his pace to be effective. Still absolutely not going to happen. The board would never even entertain the notion of such a signing imo.
  19. It seems this won't happen. And never looked likely to be honest. Hasn't he been saying he wanted to move to Spain for weeks now? Thats a fairly clear indication for all but a few.
  20. Would be great but not holding my breath on this one.
  21. He forgot guile and creativity.
  22. I think in the end it comes down to which paper talk you think is more likely to have some truth. The paper talk linking us heavily to players that other PL clubs like Tottenham et al are after or the paper talk about our best players we have being sold. I know where I stand. And its not I don't have a well established precedent to act as a guide. When you have no basis to support your argument you should probably think twice before blindly dismissing criticism as 'negativity'.
