  1. Im in a similar situation to OzToonFan. Being Australian I could've chosen any team to support I wanted to, Dad's a West Ham supporter has been since the 60s, no idea why I initially chose to support Newcastle but have done since a very young age. Like OTF i've got quite a lot of toon paraphernalia, and I finally got to SJP for our win against Spurs last year which was a lifeling dream. I don't know what the harm is in out-of-towners supporting the club just because we can't look out our window in the morning and see Grey's Monument. Footballs not been a very popular sport in Australia except for the migrant population (which the country is basically built from) and a few skips. You can tell who generally has no clue about football here because they either support Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal or the Scousers, and they probably couldnt tell you half the players in the squad. None of them however are as bad as anyone you see getting around in a LA Galaxy shirt with Beckham on the back
  2. Superb beer. So hard to find a lot of decent European beers here. Looked everywhere Bayern based beers, such as Paulaner and Hofbrau but only been able to get my hands on Löwenbräu and Erdinger (which is another great beer). Can't even get something as simple as Carling Black Label...
  3. There's me gone. Spain beating an 88 year drought against Italy as well as the June 22 curse. Couldnt have chosen a better team for them to beat tho...Germany Russia final with Germany for the win, but thats heritage bias.
  4. Italy. Never should have won last World Cup, bunch of cheats, which is reflected in both the last World Cup and their domestic league. That and the fact that half of Melbourne, where i'm from, jump on the bandwagon because they have heritage, never mind giving support to the nation they're actually living in.
  5. Great Step to Knowledge by Melrose High School
  6. From another Aussie who was in the UK last October I can definately recommend setting a bit of time aside for Scotland. Spent 6 nights in Edinburgh which was probably the longest we stayed in one particular place, but definately worth a visit and then also from there getting into the highlands, we did the touristy thing and took tours but was well worth it in a sense you actually learnt a bit along the way. All of that of course will also be affected by where you stay. Word of mouth is generally best way to decide on places, certainly made the difference of having a great time in Edinburgh compared to a less than enjoyable one one at an absolute dive in York (the backpackers that is), which as well as Newcastle is well worth a visit. If you're wanting to do the touristy thing in Lodon make sure you have some days set aside and plan where you're going or else you end up wandering around forgetting half the things you wanted to see...then again that might have just been me. Most of the time we travelled via Bus rather than train, tended to work out a bit cheaper albeit longer, but most services will go to the major centres.
  7. Quite a few take the day off here in Perth and go down to Ascot and just get drunk as a skunk so basically they are taking 2 days off then. Yes it is also a public holiday in Melbourne on that day as well. After all IT IS the race that stops a nation..... What, unlike Bathurst? Fuck Bathurst. Bathurst is the race that stops the bogan part of the nation. Yep but if they moved it to Melbourne you'd be all over it wouldn't you radioactive boy? By the way bogans only exist in Adelaide. FYP
  8. cheers, thanks for the help, could do with that new car too if anyone could pm me the email address for the ticketing office it would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Will be visiting the UK in October and was looking at the opportunity to come to a Toon match which would probably be the home game against Tottenham. Coming from Australia i'm not familiar with the ticketing system for the Premier League and SJP in particular. What are my chances of getting 3 seats together and what is the best way to go about it?
  10. Gives us the chance to stick it up Japan again
  11. No but can think of some very average performances against some very average oposition
  12. A lot is often said about Big Sam's managerial skills when we are linked with players that have a bit of history of being difficult, as well as current players eg. Luque, Barton, Dyer et al. I worry that some may be putting a lot of faith into SA's ability to sort some of these players out, of course i hope that he can, but will it be held against him if he can't?
  13. May just have been the Duscher business?
  14. Arnold is Australia's problem, FFA should have had a replacement sorted long ago
  15. FYP Agreed im confused... i think all he did was change the word of to the word have in your comment about Peschisolido
  16. Danny make sure you get to Hamburg and if you've got a day or two Schwerin is pretty cool. Would have liked to have headed north but only in Germany for a few days, spending those in Bayern, staying in Prien and heading commuting from there to Oktoberfest. Would have liked to gone to Hessen with half my family being there.
  17. Thanks for the suggestions, some places might be hard, limited on ways of travel thats all and only in the country for a top of two weeks but i'll definately keep the suggestions in mind. Obviously i'd like to get a taste of the culture as well as sights and history. As i said its only gonna be a quick visit because i'll be in Germany first and Ireland after, but definately hoping to return in later years so i will take all these suggestions into serious consideration.
  18. Cheers, had Newcastle at the top of the list, York was there too, but i'll definately look into the Lakes District
  19. Planning on visiting the UK in October, have a few places on the list but can anyone suggest places which are worth a visit?
  20. Are you really that suprised? Cant really say the backroom staff efficency was 100% at the club
