Dwight Gayle By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor Dwight Gayle became Newcastle United's latest number nine with the blessing of teammate Aleksandar Mitrovic. Former Crystal Palace front man Gayle was handed the iconic squad number - which has been worn by the likes of Alan Shearer, Malcolm Macdonald and Jackie Milburn on Tyneside - on Thursday morning, just over 24 hours before the Magpies kick off their Sky Bet Championship campaign at Fulham. Bit more detail from .cock: Manager Rafa Benitez revealed that both Gayle and Serbian striker Mitrovic had set their sights on the vacant shirt, but that there is no bad feeling between the pair, who will look to fire United back into the top flight at first time of asking. "In the end they decided," Benitez revealed. "I wanted to organise a finishing competition to see who would get the number nine. "They are both strikers who would normally will score more goals. In the end, Mitro was telling him 'listen, take the number nine'. "It was not a big issue. The atmosphere is good. I have had a conversation with both. At the beginning they both wanted the number nine but after talking between them it was easy. "I'm really pleased because they understand the main thing is to be on the pitch and score goals."

No they didnt, they decided between themselves whereas Rafa said he suggested that's what they do.
-
I was at their place in Leeds a couple of weeks ago and it was lush like.

Good luck? He's robbed a living from us for years.

You know Rafa can actually coach and organise what he's got as well aye?

He always does it man. Proper love Rudisha like, one of my favourite athletes ever. Seems dead down to Earth too. The documentaries the Beeb have done on him and Brother Colm are worth a watch. -

I'm really excited for this btw, even with some of the late event times for those of us running on GMT. Really like athletics. Going back to 2012 the outstanding track and field moment for me had to be that 800m final. -

Wykiki man, do you get joy out of watching anything? [emoji38] -
Darren Bent. [emoji38]

Was his heart really in the right place? His pointless soundbites in the chronicle and constant pointing at others to counter his own deficiencies was all about promoting brand Captain Geordie IMO.

Think that's probably a good shout actually.

"Allardyce arrives with a proven track record of getting the best results out of the teams he has managed and a strong reputation as a forward-thinker with progressive ideas." Yet he also creates a massive glass ceiling wherever he goes. "Allardyce is also charged with helping [technical director Dan] Ashworth integrate and strengthen the FA’s elite performance and coaching programme across the England senior and development teams at St. George’s Park." Oh that'll be good for the future of our national game.
-
"Dan Ashworth, David Gill and I have carried out a thorough process in the last three weeks and ultimately we could not look beyond Sam as the ideal candidate.” I know I'm biased as I completely disagree with this decision but there's absolutely no way they carried out a thorough process if all they managed to do was interview Bruce or Allardyce. The mandate was clearly to appoint an Englishman as if they'd have looked elsewhere there has to have been a better candidate out there.

Danny Guthrie strolled it so he'll be fine.

Before he got injured obviously.

Apparently Strauss is getting rid of the selectors at the end of the summer and it'll be a panel of him, Bayliss and Cook. Also Bayliss didn't want Ballance recalled and was more in favour of Buttler.
-
Miss that man.
-
It was but now you've created two problems by moving somebody who doesn't want to be there to it as well as having to shuffle the pack elsewhere. Agree with you regarding Ballance.
-
Vaughan also made a good point that against Pakistan and their potency with the older ball because of the spin and reverse swing he'd want his best batter to be up against that.
-
Tufnell and Vaughan both saying moving Root was a mistake as you've now created two problems instead of one.
