  1. Based on Collymore's intepretation of the finances involved in transfers (I'm still struggling to believe this is true) then that might not even represent a huge loss. His book value drops by another £10m, Sociedad's sell on drops by about £5m and we owe him about £15m less on the contract that we would have had to pay up anyway if we sold him now. So next summer, if we sold him for £120m, it would be about as valuable to us as £150m now - but with the bonus of him playing for another season. If he goes for £100m then that season costs us £20m. I am very very open to being challenged on fantasy maths here (I still cannot believe I am interpreting this correctly but it at least seems to be valid based on Collymore).
  2. If Howe cuts across the whole thing and speaks to the fans directly for unity and forgiveness, I reckon he can sell that. He has the credibility in the bank.
  3. She has been twisting on for days now. The fact that the Guardian thinks they can have about 5 journos covering Man Utd and that they can foist her nonsense off on us is a constant signal of their disdain for the region.
  4. You can usually tell the measure of a man by the loyalty he has to those in his life - and especially at the age of 25, as a younger man, Isak should have a mentor/mentee relationship with Howe. I wouldn't have dreamed of conducting myself in the way that has gone on here with my mentor from back then, even if I'd wanted to move on for more money or whatever. Pathetic really. Should be ashamed of himself.
  5. Congrats Cath, that's great news indeed - sounds like he's well set for the future..!
  6. Not sure I think that's the way to go with this mind. It's a kid of course but he's really not looking likely to go this summer so we're all going to have to find a way to get past this one way or another.
  7. We'll have to agree to disagree on it. It's not Brentford scoring a win that bothers me so much as the fact that decisions made in blind panic are rarely good ones and that at some point further down the line the bill comes due. We are not likely to have as good a season as we could have had based on where we are - that's life, but it's been baked in all summer. It's a gradual project, we need to think and plan in years, not months. If I'm wrong, so be it - but it's just how I operate in the real world too. I would add though that it's not so much supporters who need to get past this sort of thinking as the club itself. They're the ones who've been trying to hardball everyone on price all summer after all. I'd be very surprised if they turn around and give Brentford £60m but if they do then it smacks of poor planning because that sort of overcommit on cost could have resolved a lot of this much earlier in the window.
  8. I still can't quite get away with this line of thinking personally but fair enough. It's all well and good us saying we won't miss the £20m (though with PSR we're always going to miss it to some degree - that's £20m less to spend on someone else) but what if we were saying £70m? £80m? You might well turn around at the end of the season and say it's still worth it even if we overpay by £40m, but in the end there is a line. And I might add, with a year left on his deal, £40m is pretty generous as it is. Rome wasn't built in a day and we are still going into this season, more than likely, with one of the best forwards in the world. If Isak hadn't thrown his toys out of the pram, would we still be calling for the club to drop £60m on Wissa? Maybe we would, but I'm not sure - it's only about £10m less than the Isak replacements ffs. What I will say in support of that fee, is that if he had 3 years left on his deal it would probably be about right. So if we pay it in the end then I'll just tell myself that as a cope and then hope we don't end up needing to firesale someone next summer to re-calibrate for PSR.
  9. Fair enough but obviously there's a limit after which you feel we shouldn't pay more for him. You wouldn't pay £100m for him right? In principle you'll agree that he is not worth signing at any cost, it's just that your rough estimation of where that line is varies a little from mine. He isn't worth £60m as far as I'm concerned. I could swallow £40m. Beyond that and Brentford are having our pants down IMO.
  10. I just think if we're going to throw money away we can probably get someone on the continent for about half the cost. I hate the notion that we're getting played. I also think Isak is going to be reintegrated, so the amount we are prepared to spend to make this happen should take that into account. Just my view of course.
  11. Because I made that post about 5 mins after they rejected our bid in exasperation with the situation, and very much wanted to use the phrase. Rather than us going back to them and trying to negotiate further, we should bin the whole thing off. My choices were that we get in the fucking sea, or they do And we're already all at sea...
  12. I didn't say they had, I'm just saying that we should walk away from it because what they appear to want is much higher than what we should be prepared to pay. It is clear that they do not want to sell him and on that basis we should move on.
  13. Like, £120k a week over 3 years is £18m. His loyalty fee is £12m. His representative bellend is what, another £5m or so? So we lose £35m to fucking Isak, plus the £30m still on the books, plus £15m to Sociedad. So about £80 fucking million of the fee is essentially a write off if we sell him now We wouldn't even get half the fucking fee. Have I got that right..? EDIT - maybe the loyalty fee is actually his remaining wages? Either way it's a fucking joke. Fuck right off Liverpool.
  14. So to be clear then If we sell him with 3 years left we actually owe him quite a fucking lot of money. £20-30m. That might be why, scousers, you're not getting him with three years left for 120m.
  15. Spurs are done with Richarlison already It's not the end of the world if we don't get Wissa if the only way anyone is getting him is if Brentford get £60m. Spurs are welcome to him at that price.
  16. I'd prefer we just soldier on than buy someone like Jackson tbh who is categorically shit. I don't think we can afford to buy the wrong player really, even if it hurts this season somewhat (though hopefully we can get to January with Isak/Osula/Gordon).
  17. I still reckon we end up reintegrating Isak tbh if we can't get Wissa. It'll be uncomfortable for all concerned but it's better than being made fools of by Brentford.
  18. Brentford can get in the fucking sea at this point. They don't want to sell him clearly. Let's just move on and pick him up on a free next summer if we're really still determined.
  19. This has to be a parody account, surely?
  20. Owen? Maybe a few too many words for him tbh though. He'd have gotten bored with it about two sentences in.
  21. Wait what, you mean Brentford haven't agreed to that yet? For fuck sake, how much longer is this fucking bullshit going on... I assumed we wouldn't be bothering bidding if we hadn't basically had a green light on the numbers ffs.
  22. This idea Liverpool fans have that we are going to be satisfied replacing a 150m striker with a 35m one is perhaps the most arrogant take of them all. Fucking delusional muppets.
  23. Hard to know which way to go with it though - bridge building or some sort of statement about the club over all other considerations? If the fans do turn on Isak then we're doing his agent's job for him - that's the only thing I'm struggling with a little.
