Is it just me or does it feel every year the seasons outcome is more and more about injuries and avoiding them? Thinking back to Keegan times, didn't we have a smaller squad who didn't get injured as much? Maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me. Or more likely the demands of the game are so much greater now. Also, I cant help wincing when I see knee slides. Surely thats a risk, even if a small one.

So the mackems have been obsessed about the derby since the dates were announced, and this is an idea they have for a tifo display. 10 points if you can work out why?
-
They're getting so carried away. The last nine games have been a fairy tale beyond their wildest dreams apparently. I mean hasn't that included losses against Burnley, *checks notes* Huddersfield, several draws and beating nobody of note? Oh aye, "miles" above the mags FTM. Might be 2 point ts come Sunday.

Am not ultra defensive of the place. In the 80s it was the most edgy shithole I'd ever seen, and I was used to Glasgow. I was burgled multiple times and every time I went to a pub someone tried to sell me a block of cheese nicked from the supermarket. I think there is a different attitude to theft there (blame the Irish influence) and also a lot think they are comedians when they're as funny as toothache. These are all tropes that you can fit to some of them and there are equally many you can apply to us. There are actually much more similarities between the cities than differences. They've got scallies, we've got charvers, both vermin, for instance. We even operate the same class of Stadler light rail trains. 😉 But both are still great places tbh. A lot, not from you, clearly goes way beyond this though. Some pretty unpleasant generalisations as this thread shows. I just think when you have a go at other football fans, there's lines you shouldn't cross. And when they are that's going to cause the defensiveness you cite, which may work its way down to lesser insults. Anyway, sure you're as bored as me by now. LFC are massive cunts, we can agree on that.
-
Dunno mate. I mean we've had the run of ManU recently and these cunts have a better squad than us.
-
I've not worked all over the country but I've with people from all over this country, Europe, America and Asia. You get good people and bad people from every place. Even Sunderland. Even Glasgow rangers persuasion. Even South Africa. Its likely you're blinkered by your own hatred iyam.
-
And my point they are ultra defensive partly because of the tropes that are being thrown about. Which are then generalised to all of them, which you're probably guilty of. I mean Id be defensive if I was constantly referred to as a murderer. Which happens, as evidenced by some on this board. I've absolutely no wish to discuss Heysel and score points. It was a fucking tragedy, end of, as was Hillsborough.
-
Pretty sure I responded to Fish mind. Yeah, of course living there for 5 years I made friends and its natural to defend them against lazy tropes and stereotyping. Probably similar to Mrs Fish but of course this then gets morphed into part of the same trope, like its a contagion. If it's your thing to generalise about a whole city based on what some hooligan dickheads did 4 decades ago, fill your boots.
-
Fuck me are you on the blob today? No HMHM, I don't mean overtime.
-
Have you fucking seen the fight @The Fish's missus has caused on here btw? Shame.
-
Maybe not, but then again they literally inflicted genocide, which is slightly worse in my book. I don't blame Germans now though.
-
40byears ago man, half the perpetrators will be dead. Did you hold a grudge against the Germans in the 1990s?
-
Definitely. And you can see the same in Newcastle, Yorkshire, Scotland, anywhere with a strong identity.
-
The fact you had to mention this at all...
-
And yet the mackems will say we're exactly the same when talking about Newcastle. Because arguing from personal anecdote is always right. Anyway, sounds like you may need some marital advice to me. I wouldn't ask it from Gemmill mind.
-
Its really not. See Sunderland for instance. Scousers have a huge chip on their shoulders because of the huge amounts of investment that have been put into Manchester, just like mackems are with us. Im not condoning it, it's just people being people. Ironically your narrative here plays into the exceptionalism theme, that they are somehow different. Put people into the same situation, you get the same results, scousers are no better or worse than the rest of us. By extension thats also true of the mackems I guess. And piss taking is fine but some people let it slip into hatred, which isn't.
-
I'm not getting into Heysel with you. British (and for that matter Italian) hooliganism was rife at the time and that stadium was a fucking disgracen, what happenedshouldnt have been possible. What I'm not going to do is condemn a whole city about what some hooligans did 40 years ago, and wish it's extinction based on this. There's enough to hate the club and fans about right now without going back to this.
-
Heseltine hated Thatcher man. He was a cunt, but nowhere near her level.
-
Check your history books. Tarzan was against "managed decline" of Liverpool. That was cunts like Tebbit who incidentally also fucking hated the North East. But whatever, fall for the divide and rule if you like. 👍
-
Yeah, kind of the attitude which riles up Mrs Fish and why Fish clearly never gets a shag or nosh nowadays. Anyway, been done to death, Ive got/had loads of decent souse mates. It's always better to separate the club from the city imo.
-
No I'm not, I'm explaining a possible reason for your wife's position. People claim scousers are professional victims. But historically they were victims, as recently as the 80s. I wouldn't say they were now mind so this is a legacy they need to get over.
-
The Boldon Blood Brothers again. Honestly, it's a thing of beauty.
-
I spent 5 years there as a student during the Thatcher/Major years when the place was an absolute dump. And so was Newcastle. Both cities were stereotyped and looked down on more than other northern cities. Both had a stronger regional identity than other northern cities imo. There was a definite affinity between the cities. And still is imo. So yeah, I will defend the city agonst lazy caricaturing usually propogated by southern wankers, because I recognise it happening to Newcastle too. That definitely doesn't extend to the clubs now though. Fuck LFC.

We've played Barca n'arl

Also ironic, but that goal by BFG, really Isakesque. Hopefully this one comes with a soul.
