No we're not happy but from my pov that is preferable to direct combat between Russia and NATO which could easily escalate to Armageddon. There's a lot of unknowns here as well. Just how strong is the Russian military, not in numbers, but in terms of technology. The US's defence budget has been in excess of 50 times that of Russia's for 3 decades now. Is it unfeasible that Ukraine armed with these gadgets could defeat the Russian bear? Always easier to defend than attack as well. Ukraine is a fucking huge country, no way can Putin control it forever given it's not liberation, it's occupation. There seems to be an assumption he is some kind of genius and has won already. I'm not sure that is true.

I always want to think of the Germans as rational, scientific people, as witnessed by their car industry. But it's not true. To close down nuclear power after Fukishima and make themselves dependent on Russia was frankly insane. Their anti-GM food agenda also is nonsensical, and was one of the things I really didn't agree with the EU on. Also Germans are prone to believing in all sorts of woo, homeopathy, anti-vax, the occult, you name it. And they have a worse cuisine than us.

I was looking at his on a map yesterday, which led me to read up on the history of the situation. Fascinating, I never knew Russia had an enclave in the heart of Europe.

Because I still can't get my head around why. It doesn't strike me as a rational action, I was assuming Putin was a rational actor. If he isn't, I hope he can be taken out from within. I see now why he had long tables.

I wonder how much can be compensated for by re-routing energy supplies, what the scope is? I can see the cause for Scottish independence and NUFC getting significant boosts.

Sanctions are massively asymmetrical in the west's favour. You can see that looking at the fall in value of the rouble today. But it will massively hurt Europe too. I hold up my hands, I didn't think he would launch a country wide attack. I still don't want to directly intervene with boots on ground but we should be providing them with as much military support as we can, give them drones, air defence, tank defence etc. And firmly draw a line behind incursions to any NATO country. Very worrying times we live in.

Problem is, the American public are so fucking stupid they won't be able to grasp what is going on there. Despite its huge size, they couldn't point to Ukraine on a map. Trump included, obviously. Terrifying that this gimp was POTUS for 4 years. As a case in point, I remember the Olympics in Atlanta 1996. Opening ceremony, when Georgia was announced, the entire stadium erupted because these idiots thought it was their own state participating in the games.

In a way CT is right. It's like you've been to a party with your partner and they have utterly disgraced themselves. In the cold light of the morning, you are still cringing but they sure as hell don't want to talk about it. Brexit is and has been a complete shit show. There are clearly literally no upsides, only downsides. We have made our economy poorer and taken away our own freedoms. We have burnt our political capital and soft power around the world. We are a laughing stock. The only brexiters who want to talk about it are either lunatics or wums, and tbf I don't think CT is either now. I think its going to get more interesting now as the fog of covid clears and the threat of war materialises. The former will outline clearly the economic damage that has and is being done. The latter will focus minds on who was actually behind Brexit and who gained. We know who were paying for Leave, and these same fuckers - quite literally traitors - are now the ones blaming the West and NATO (don't worry @Rayvin, no need to apologise, I don't mean you, I'm talking about Farage and Banks et al.). At the same time, cunts like Johnson are appealing for European unity against the Russian threat. The hypocrisy is mind blowing and the penny is certainly beginning to drop. I so hope that eventually justice can be done but I'll not hold my breath.
