  1. Supposing he was for argument’s sake. Only they would take that as a win, given he became our record goalscorer and won three fa cups
  2. “What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.” That makes fuck all sense in the context of SAFC tbh.
  3. Prokofiev was brought up in Hetton-le-Hole
  4. It’s the absolute lack of detail which makes their stories just that little bit more unbelievable
  5. Please don’t stop. Without wishing to put words in people’s mouths, I’d hope everyone on here would be similar to me and would feel terrible about it if you no longer felt able to or wanted to express your views about this on here. I tend to keep out of this but not because of a lack of interest or caring, more a sense hopelessness about the whole situation. On the point of Ukraine as opposed to Palestine then I suppose the main difference in perception is Ukraine being able to defend itself and countries like ours helping them to do so. With Palestine then at best we’re doing nothing and at worst we’re fully complicit (or somewhere in between). It’s highly unlikely any UK PM would or could’ve felt they could act differently but it’s still a marked difference in the stance towards the two conflicts. On the other side I think it must be incredibly difficult to be (for want of a better term) ‘openly Jewish’ and express yourself without fear of being attacked. Either literally or in a figurative sense online and so on. I can’t really imagine what that is like. It’s probably always been a bit like that but it must be so much worse now. I doubt it’s as bad for people with Russian heritage living in the UK even. Although I’m sure that can’t be easy at times either.
  6. Do they even still make that drink.
  7. I guess where Gloom is coming from here is a lot of the IDF are conscripted and some of them are members of his own family. Which is totally understandable of course
  8. It’s a fucking stupid thing to say but they’re trying to make a point rather than anything else imo. It’s one thing inciting a group who are in a position to carry something out and a different matter when it’s a situation like this. I’m not saying you can say what you want without consequences but I feel like it’s not a particularly proportionate response by the media and politicians given the wider context and the obvious war crimes being committed with the tacit approval of ours and other governments
  9. There was an incident a while back where a Palestinian lad the same age as my eldest was shot and killed. His family said he was gathering almonds and the Israeli government spokesperson said they were a terrorist throwing stones at cars on a busy road. Now even if you accept the latter version, they’re basically admitting they think it’s justifiable to kill kids for throwing stones. I know that’s just one drop in a sea of tragedies but how is it somehow worse in the eyes of government to criticise the IDF, however clumsily? Actually then talking about prosecuting them as well? I don’t see how it’s hate speech. I actually think conflating the IDF and its actions with all Jewish people, which is essentially what is being done with the reaction, is far worse. On top of which there will be more people happy to use it to bash the bbc than there will be people with genuine concerns about antisemitism.
  10. They’ll be the same ones saying we should look after our own whilst kicking off about free school meals
  11. Alex

    Wimbledon

Btw do you know when Robertson’s phased that out? 2001
  12. Remember when Agassi used to wear denim shorts with built in cycling shorts underneath?
  13. Boris Yeltsin, Arthur Askey, Mike Neville and Mikhail Gorbachev joining Wraith is quite the line up
  14. Well that’s ruined the ‘Herculean effort’ post I was going to make about it.
  15. It nails a lot of my feelings about Glastonbury like. And that’s having seen barely any of it this year. The point about Rod Stewart as well. I mean he was a parody of himself when I was a kid in the 80s. I do think he did some ok stuff about a decade before that but he’s that type of artist where I just cannot fathom anyone wanting to see live, ie a renowned vocalist whose voice is absolutely shot. It’s just embarrassing for all concerned. Then you have the BBC presenter cunts going full North Korea and insisting (I assume, as they did with Elton John) that it was a <insert superlative here> performance for the ages.
  16. The initial signings took the club forward at a ridiculous rate. But they’ve also left us in the predicament we are in re: PSR. To just heap praise on Staveley doesn’t really look at the whole picture. Obviously PSR is designed to stymie us interlopers. And we’ve all got to give fanks to Mike for the lack of revenue streams which have also been a massive factor. I do think she was a good link between the footballing management side of things and the (real) ownership however. But I don’t think it was a particularly sustainable transfer policy. Unless you’d be happy to see some of our best players leave to go to the sides we’re trying to chase down
  17. Yeah but you could still theoretically demonstrate that more easily if you’re established, successful team I suppose. I.e. there’s no way we’d have been allowed to make a similar argument/have a similar valuation. I mean it’s all fucking bollocks anyway and it was just a way of letting Chelsea get out of their predicament.
