  1. You’re spot on. Costacurta and Baresi were both unavailable (suspended I think) so Maldini played there with both the first choice CBs out. I remember watching it at university and this lad I knew called Rob (Ipswich fan) called it perfectly saying he thought Milan would win easy. As everyone thought Barcelona would win (Van Basten was still injured and I seem to remember one or two others of their first choices not being available).
  2. Give the bloke a break. Royal deaths are all he lives for
  3. I’m sure I didn’t imagine this but didn’t Vieri speak English with an Aussie accent (for obvious reasons) only to later transition to speaking English with an Italian accent?
  4. Vialli and Ravenelli were a great partnership
  5. Del Piero was never the same post injury but still a great player. Totti I suppose is fair enough for his longevity and the amount he scored. Again we’re talking ‘modern era’ though. But if we’re on about just my lifetime again (and playing that formation) I’d have Baggio in the ‘Trequartista’ role with peak Vieri and Rossi upfront. Donadoni was a class player too on the wing. The likes of Riva and Rivera were a bit before my time
  6. No, it was the other way round. He finished up playing as a CB but played the vast majority of his games as a (right-footed) LB. He was predictably brilliant in the middle too though. There is some ridiculous stat where him and Baresi played there together about 150 times in serie a and Milan conceded 25 goals (or something like that). However it makes a good point, that while he was more celebrated as a full back he’d easily get ahead of Twaterazzi (TM Isegrim) in the middle too. You could say similar about Bergomi too. Who should probably make the team as a RB (if we’re talking about in my lifetime) but would be another better CB than the aforementioned Twat
  7. Hope it hasn’t spread to his fingers
  8. Do your research vibes from Mr 20 Twitter followers who can’t even get the name of the signing right. Also on one hand he’s saying history repeats itself and then on the other he’s inadvertently saying Howe has learnt from his mistakes and that’s why he isn’t playing a 6? He can get in the fucking sea too along with the rest of the impatient babies
  9. And the point is playing Livramento there, in the current setup, might not fix that. Howe possibly doesn’t think so. Don’t get me wrong, I think Burn should be dropped for his own good, but if he isn’t I still very much trust the manager. There’s loads of factors imo. The ones you mention, Burn’s injury, Miley making us more open in midfield (not scapegoating him either). Pope being much more of a command your box keeper (and more of a sweeper/keeper) than Dubravka. Botman still not back his best, etc.
  10. The games room complete with a safe full of gold bars was a nice touch
  11. Far too much to do (again - even we actually won last time) after the first innings. It’s worth remembering that it took one of the great test innings (by Pope) to set up victory last time. You’d have needed to see something similar chasing that score down. Which isn’t really realistic two tests in a row. The middle order needs to do more, as DK alludes to with the mention of Root. Agree about Root not needing to do anything funky. His strike rate was class anyway just playing his normal game. I actually thought we’d do very well to lose by less than 100, which wasn’t quite managed. And that was a pretty good effort in the 4th innings. A lot of English touring sides of the past would’ve collapsed with barely a whimper chasing that
  12. I really like Burn but sometimes you need to rest / drop a player for their own good.
  13. I think apart from the spiv, who’s been dead for about 50 years, and Ian Lavender, Clive Dunn was about the youngest of the main ones. As he wasn’t as old as looked / the character he played. But obviously no spring chicken and also long gone
  14. Weetabix-haired although I’d argue Scargill’s was more like shredded wheat
  15. Taking up no. 2 on the NUFC list (just behind Cacapa)
  16. About what? How fucking clueless the people compiling it were?
  17. In the past 40 years they’ve probably had about 10 better than him. Baresi was arguably the greatest CB ever. Nesta was definitely better too. Scirea as well. I’d pick Vierchowod over him and Costacurta was definitely better. Albertini in midfield too. Did they need a YouTube reel with a shite soundtrack to be considered?
  18. I like how they’ve used a ridiculous font and it’s still easier to read than the actual Spirit of’37 ones
  19. It’s actually a collection of linked short stories. About various visits to Roker Park
