There are few things as odd as English public schools

The Empire, aye. Although it’s absolutely nothing to be proud of and wallowing in this kind of stupid nostalgia is the reason the country’s been in decline for decades

I reckon he was almost at the vinegar strokes thinking about how those so-called but not actually illegal immigrants were about to be shipped off to where they didn’t even come from. Now those nasty lefty woke judges have actually correctly interpreted the law he’s very very upset at having yet another pleasure eroded. Nailed on he’s retired, mortgage-free and the only time he encounters these subjects of his ire is via the Daily Mail.

Does that stupid, angry, on the verge of a seizure cunt realise who makes the law?

Hamas killed almost as many civilians in 24 hours as were killed in several decades in the Troubles. Israel have killed several times more (in the preceding 20 years) and in the weeks since. I am not for a second seeking to condone / justify Israel’s response. But a huge response to what Hamas did was inevitable. It’s the worse slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust. As I’ve mentioned previously I don’t see anything wrong in the response from Starmer in relation to the call for a ceasefire. There’s nothing to be gained at all and plenty for his opponents to use against him. I have loads of issues with the bloke and his (lack of) leadership over things he can influence. But I find a lot of the criticism of him over this on here quite bizarre tbh.
-
What’s the point in getting drawn into demanding a ceasefire? It’s the left in the main calling for it, many of whom would prefer Corbyn. The right, meanwhile would jump all over it. Not because they care about it but because they could use it against him, aided and abetted by the Mail et al. His nuanced, considered response is clever and the right one imo. Whether that’s playing the game (because that’s the only way to win) or whether it’s what he actually thinks.
-
I don’t think there’s a thing wrong with what Starmer said. As for Macron, doesn’t France traditionally have the largest Muslim population in Western Europe?
-
What is meant to be achieved by the leader of the opposition calling for a ceasefire btw?
-
I don’t recall a lot of that stuff appearing on the referendum ballot paper btw. It’s almost like she’s the one making stuff up. ’Nice’ to see a desire to return to the heady days of the section 28 rhetoric too. Fuck off with your failed culture war, keep fucking off and, when you get there, fuck off some more.

Sounds like those saying she was trying to get the sack were giving her too much credit

Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER

It’s cyclical though. And you still get teams playing with footballers ‘in the hole’. Man City won everything last season with players like Foden (named as a winger but would exploit the spaces in between Defence and midfield), Alvarez and Bernardo Silva. I might be wrong but a lot of sides still seem to play with two holding midfielders allowing three more attacking ones. And Maddison has been arguably the main reason for Spurs’ good start in that sort of role. Seems a bit overly nostalgic/myopic re: James Rodriguez, who just seemed to lose interest four or five seasons ago. -
And as the saying goes, there’s nothing more ‘ex’ than an ex-MP
-
Aye, as Gemmill alludes to you’ve got loads of people like Gullis who were first time MPs in 2019. Even in previously safe Tory seats there were a lot of new MPs because more moderate Tories either left of their own accord or were culled in favour of those loyal to Johnson. From their pov it’s absolute annihilation on the cards if they do this now so they might as well hang on as it can’t get much worse in terms of polling. In other words it’s pure self-interest rather than what’s good for the party / country / economy etc.

The best number 10 we ever had wore number 8 and worked his bollocks off (unlike the two he mentions) -
Plus you only get one shot at it (realistically) and he’s almost certainly only got s year or so left in the job. He’ll also say he inherited the mess anyway so he can point to that in terms of his ‘legacy’ and all that bollocks too. Plenty of scope for asset stripping, so to speak, in the meantime too, as you point out

Loads of the people who’ve abandoned Labour because of Starmer want him back too, if social media is anything to go by. I’m fairly disappointed with Starmer, as has been discussed at length, but the idea Corbyn would be better, is PM material etc is fucking ludicrous.

Like many of us have noted previously it’s all just a game to this lot

Yeah. I just meant actually getting to be party leader but you’re right (if he did manage to get that far).
