Seem to remember the dulcet tones of mackem-loving Charles Harrison going on about that at the time (might’ve been a subsequent season)

Who signed Goddard? McFaul? Agree about the character of the man. My dad met him a couple of times and he sounds like he was a very approachable, down to earth bloke.

I like the story (possibly apocryphal) about when he went for the Ireland job. I’ve voted labour all my adult life (bar a libdem protest vote post-Iraq) and still will but I’m not really bothered any more. It’s apathy about people too stupid to see beyond their own prejudices. Apart from our resident contrary dickhead (not CT, the other one), I don’t think I’ve spoken to anyone who is a Newcastle fan who thinks Bruce is any good or that we haven’t been lucky this season. I’ve no doubt there’ll be fans who disagree because there’s loads of fans at every club who know the square root of fuck all about the game. But Edwards seems to be vastly overestimating the amount of people who agree with him. Probably similar to how he views his own popularity, importance and intelligence
