It was West Ham (away) I think that finally put paid to out outside chance of winning the league. 0-0 draw? Watched it in some bar in town I seem to remember. I think it was our third from last game. If we’d won, then beat Man Utd away (we ended up drawing 1-1 or 0-0 there too I think) we only have needed to beat Forest to win the league.

The daft thing is at the end of the previous season Dalglish had stumbled upon a system that worked with Tino, Shearer and Sir Les all playing in a 4-3-3. So he scrapped it (of course he did).

For those old enough to remember Italia 90 it won’t tell you anything you didn’t already know (although you might have temporarily forgotten what a little cunt Colin Moynihan was / is). But for a bit of bittersweet nostalgia to take edge off the world ending it’s worth an hour and a half of your time.
