Root has 2 hundreds at three and 7 centuries batting at four (with a far superior average) if you want to go down that road. That doesn’t mean Denly is a better test number three and it’s silly to suggest I implied that. He’s an opener and, as such, the balance of the side is better with him at 3 and Root at 4 imo. And if you think the idea of moving your best batsman out of his comfort zone to 3 to protect an inferior batsman (who’s actually an opener anyway) isn’t muddled thinking then you’re more clueless than I thought you were

He’s certainly implied that so far -
Thought so 😎

Absolute rubbish tbh. Moving your best player to make up for the inadequacies of the other batsmen doesn’t solve a problem. It compounds it when, as in this case, it has a detrimental impact on his batting. It’s even more ridiculous when, like in this match, they had a natural better option, ie Denly, for 3. You obviously won’t agree but it doesn’t matter because the stats back me up

I’ll take that as you admitting I was right

Root’s got the best record of all test captains for successful reviews. And that’s with Broad in the side

The owner’s been making people apathetic for years. That was reversed to a degree under Benitez because he had an affinity with the fans and understood what the club meant to the city. He was also able to get the most out of an ordinary set of players and engendered a team spirit. Fans related to and appreciated that. More so with the owner being a weapons grade cunt. That relative feel good factor basically ended for many when Rafa left (and anyone who can’t see who is mostly to blame for his departure must’ve slept through the last 12 years). Then, just to top it off his replacement was Steve fucking Bruce. It’s not really hard to comprehend why that might have been the final straw for lots of us. -
Going to have to be honest here, Gloom. I’m not sure you were right about playing Root at 3

The saddest thing is he’ll have seen the stat quoted somewhere or had it fed to him that our last PL away win v them was the 2-1 in the early 90s and the ‘We’ is meant to be NUFC -

Stokes is different to the others mentioned.

As I’ve said previously you only need to develop a player good enough to be sold to a championship side now and again for the academy to pay for itself. Anything else is a bonus. Every club should invest on that basis alone but it’s even stupider not to given the way we operate
