    Was in the Mirror last week apparently. He's probably been interviewed playing for the U21s and said he would like to go back to Spain one day (or similar) and because he's Basque it means he's off to Athletic Bilbao. He didn't play against Huddersfield so The Mag / Teamtalk (had nee idea the latter was still going) regurgitate the story, the latter as an 'exclusive'.

    Don't know really is the honest answer. Could have been another £15m but no players available who were worth signing as even £20m gets you fuck all in terms of a striker now? I'm dead cynical regarding Ashley so accept he could well not make good on his promise, just not 100% sure that has already been the case

    I agree by the way that Ashley has been daft (and lucky) to get away with not allowing more investment over the summer gone, but I also see it as being in line with what he said about the club spending within the constraints of what it generates.

    Probably did given the losses incurred from relegation. I think you could argue that and if (big fucking 'if') he keeps the promise of letting the club spend what it generates I'll be reasonably happy going forward.

    Yeah, I should have probably elaborated. I agree with you there really, I just sort of meant that even finishing above them is a decent achievement with the lack of budget. Plus Slimani has only played about 20-odd minutes since he came but it's a fair point about the loan signings as Kenedy has really given us a different attacking dimension and the Dubravka looks class

    Benitez talked about that at that live Times podcast thingy at the Tyneside Cinema. He puts it down to the lack of experience and a how lot of the players are still learning how to manage games like that. I think it should improve on that basis and you'd like to think he'll be given more money to spend this summer too

    I also think we've struggled in games a bit at times because of the pressure of being in a perilous league position but we appear to be playing well now and also no longer having that over us. Our win coupled with the bottom 3 all losing makes it practically inconceivable we could go down now (the Bookies have us as 33-50/1). Agree about Benitez and his work ethic and not letting the team switch off.
