It's that tough USA haven't failed to qualify since 1986 (albeit they were hosts in '94). They get 3 1/2 places and that 4th placed team plays the 5th best Asian team. Basically they had to finish above Panama (ranked 60th in the world) to qualify automatically (or ahead of Honduras - 74th - to get into the playoffs). Sounds like he was getting his excuses ready to be honest. Also the bloke's an ex-goalie who never played (and has never coached / managed a side) oustide the USA. Probably think European sides are shit based on washed up stars going to play in their poxy pub league.

Watched the first of the Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams. Was looking forward to it as I was impressed with Black Mirror which was also on Channel 4 and had some nods to PKD's work. I'm also a massive fan of his stuff but I wasn't disappointed and it was also good to get a look at what post-Brexit Britain will look like.
