Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER

What a tragedy -
Yeah, I guess it's too early to really assess that properly.

I tend to agree fwiw, just making the point it cast a large shadow over both him and his party.

Iraq's not easy to ignore though, is it?
-
And it's relevant because a pernicious print media still tells us a truth that is in the interests of their owners and not the people. And, of course, the kind of rampant free market economics championed by Thatcher is what got us into this mess in the first place.
-
The bigger the lie... Look at the perception of the Thatcher years as some sort of necessary evil to save the country from terminal decline. But we had the 6th biggest economy when she came to power and it was the 6th biggest after even though the Soviet Union collapsed. She increased public spending because she'd made so many people unemployed so she increased taxes to pay for it (except for the rich). The country ran a deficit for almost all of her years in power until the (short lived) boom at the end of the 80s and the deficit was rising again by the time she went, even though she sold off all the family silver and had North Sea oil and gas revenues. The rate of inflation was nearly as high when she left power as when she took over but the spirallin inflation back then was a sign Labour couldn't run the economy. Then there were the crippling interest rates which caused many to default on their mortgage payments. And she basically created the public housing crisis (or at the very least made a crisis a lot worse). But she's made out as a saviour because there were a few strikes in the 70s (a decade where inequality was nothing like as bad as it was by the time she went).

We'll just grow more food. That's Chris Grayling's solution

It's why I fear even a second referendum might not be enough to save us from this mess

Surely the last point is negated by your earlier inferences that they're biased and unreliable though. Cake and eat it, if you want terms you understand

I read that about him once before, i.e. when he was skint in the 50's him and his wife ate cat food. I'd have thought stuff like tuna and baked beans were about the same price like But he was a bit soup-de-loop. There's a short story of his I read where the protagonist kills his cat then ends up trapped in a cell where all the food is cat food. Or something like that

There must be a phrase to sum all this up. Something along the lines of: Broken Britain.

Pissed myself laughing when San Marino scored. It was the only appropriate response really. -

Had a check and it's on Prime (in the UK at least). Have added it to 'the list'.

You do it all by yourself tbh

He despised Souness but absolved the board of any blame for appointing him. I mean, I quite liked discussing things with him at times, you know Tony Green and shit like that? But his intransigence on stuff like the board was just bizarre.

A chaotic government failing to make any progress on talks with the EU is BAU

It was CT's Gazza moment, only with Barry instead of Raoul.

I assumed that was who it was. The fact he's in his mid-30s and presumably thinks his twitter pic, with a tab dangling out the side of his mouth, is cool suggests she's not far off the mark in her assessment.

Currently got Ray Donovan (good, like the new direction this series has taken) Tin Star (Tim Roth is good but there's a few plot holes, still decent enough) Electric Dreams (only watched the 1st one but good so far) on the go and have The Deuce ready to watch too. But I'll defintely give Mindhunter a go as it sounds like my type of thing and the reviews look good. And Gemmill even likes it
