i think we break the bank - and the wage structure - to secure him to a long term deal if we finish top four again. another season of champions league will give us more psr headroom and will help us secure new commercial deals - stadum/training ground naming rights the obvious ones. it won't be £500k per week but it could be half that, which still isn't to be sniffed at. we're building something special. the destination is man city-level dominance. being part of that journey is going to be seductive for a lot of players - they will go down in newcastle folklore. of course, we'll lose some players along the way if real madrid come calling but others will stay for the ride

if we finish top four this season, i think we sign him up to a lomg-term deal. these players all know that if they win a trophy they will go down as legends. it will be harder for any player to walk away then.

Troy Deeney’s assessment of Isak in his team of the week for the bbc. I tell you what, Troy. Why not fuck off and stop talking about him as a replacement for others? Alexander Isak (Newcastle): We may as well just keep him in for the next six weeks. Mr Isak, the best striker on the planet currently. He does everything - scores two goals, creates an assist and then goes and sits down after 70 minutes because it is job done. We can keep talking about how good he is - he's an obvious replacement for others, but while he's at a flying Newcastle team why would he leave? They may end up - don't say it too loud - creating a little title push

I’d be surprised if it isn’t burn and Botman again against Bournemouth. I agree about the need to rotate but Howe is usually reluctant to change a winning team, even when the games are coming thick and fast
-
yeah, I disagree with that. Burn and Botman have looked great together. I’m just saying it’s suboptimal in the modern game where the emphasis is on playing out from the back. In the future we ideally have Botman at LCB and a player of a similar technical level with a right foot at RCB. But as things stand, you can’t drop Dan Burn so I think Schar is the one to miss out against Bournemouth. Saturday will be the first time Eddie has had to make this decision since Botman’s return because schar apparently had an illness on Wednesday but will back for the weekend. It’ll be interesting to see which way Howe goes. It would be very harsh if either a Burn or Botman were dropped

It’s not that you can’t play two lefties at CB but ideally you want a left footer at LCB and a right footer at RCB. Playing out from the back is such a big part of the game now and it makes that easier. Having said that, I think Schar’s got his work cut out to get back in the team. His form has been up and down. Burn has immense all season and Botman looks so much better coming back from injury this time compared to last season. He should keep his place for Bournemouth

the danone parody account was one of the funniest thing i've read on instagram. whoever ran it apparently consulted the man himself for background before posting his weirdly hilarious anecdotes and paid tribute to him today

he was the greatest to ever do it

football is a lot like life. Like the late great Bill Hicks said: it’s just a ride. Got to just find a way to enjoy it which it lasts

It’s their title to lose. It would say a lot about him if he’s more arsed about a final payday than winning a second premier league title. He’s already got enough money and will no doubt secure a shitload more even if he delays his move until the summer . I’d love to see him take the money and run this month

age is a factor but it's a numbers game. we have bodies at CB in reserve - players happy to play in that position. we don't have any rotation options at RW if miggy goes who have shown they want to play in that position or who can perform to the required level. i'm all for selling miggy too, but failing to replace him is a big gamble.

I love Tino but if he had trippier’s technical ability he’d be some player
