  1. I think the Leveson Inquiry are duty-bound to investigate the rumours circulating twitter to see if there's any truth in them and it is in the public's interests to know either way. But the details of any story that may have been about to break on him should never see the light of day. Tell you what if there is a link, given that the Leveson inquiry is sitting at the moment, the British press as we know it should be consigned to history. Disagree with both of you strongly. The current phone hacking scandal involved criminal acts perpetrated by 'journalists' and organisations which were uncovered by an investigative journalist. We have laws to deal with such criminal acts. A major part of the problem is that the police were in on it, and polititians chose to let criminal activity go unpunished because of the perceived sway the press had on the electorate. These factors enabled the criminal element to expand and not face legal action, until now (perhaps, let's wait for the result of legal action). I have no problem with free press, the criminal element is the problem. Not really sure which part of what I said you're disagreeing with tbh. The phone hacking involves alleged illegality and therefore those involved should face criminal sanction. The rumours (and thats all they are) about a salacious tabloid story being a factor in Gary Speed's death might have been 100% legal for a free press to i. research and ii. report, but if there was any substance to it I'd want it to be known I consider shit like that absolutely none of my business in the first place. That's just having a strongly disapproving opinion about what is an often horrendously motivated industry, not me claiming that a crime's been committed. I'm perfectly sensible of the difference. As it's never been any more than a rumour though I don't want to contribute to perpetuating anything that might not be true in the first place, so I won't, save only to say that I stand by the principle of what I originally said.
  2. Was struggling to think of a worse winger TBH. Just can't get over how he moped around, scored the goal that relegated us, jumped ship and then scored against us. And he looks like a scaled down version of Gemmill. Damning stuff when you consider Gemmill's only redeeming feature is his height.
  3. Plus Alan Smith's contract expiring will feel like a new signing.
  4. Andy Murray? Really? I'll bet that's not even his first nomination either. What a fucking stupid competition.
  5. We were expected to go down last season. Now we've got the nucleus of a very competitive side. I'll take that and try and stay positive that we can hopefully add.
  6. Its vital to have one player who does it, for those games when its tight or your team is off form and he tries it against the best, he was inches away against City and won the pen at manu, hopefully gearing up for Chelsea where he can score the winner with a similar run! He wants to be encouraged to do this and play his natural game, not given the blowtorch from the stands if it doesn't come off every time, that's absolutely crucial. We've players behind him that should give him the confidence to try things knowing he's covered defensively. We passed the ball really well at times the other day but Man U as a back four would have been happy for us to try and pass it into the net-it's a different story though when you've got someone who'll just pick it up and run directly at them. Sliding tackles in the box? Yes please I'm happy to see them against us all day.
  7. http://www.timesoccer.com/video/03/04-newcastle-vs-manchester-united-live-video-highlights.html 5:50 you can't put a price on this for me tbh, theres nowt on and most players would just lay this ball wide to Obertan, who wouldn't want it anyway. He picks it up and is actually facing the wrong way to start with but he just thinks fuck it I'm going in the box and if you want to challenge me you can do it there. Absolutely massive players like this, you don't have to pass your way through a team it's just direct and keeps the defence having to think about more than they normally would. He's not fit either he's gasping for breath. Keep it up son, you'll be a legend!
  8. Aye. He's not fit and the pen was never a pen but we'd probably not have scored the other day if it hadn't been for him carrying the ball into the box. Could be massive for us if we gear everything right for him to realise his potential.
  9. People who board their flights last minute and start moaning all the overhead storage room has been taken.
  10. And by fact I do of course mean pure speculation.
  11. Aye, was just thinking that. Also very much doubt Spurs would get turned over at home by Man C if they played them now too. Not that you get the luxury to pick and choose the fixtures, but just purely as a matter of fact.
  12. Not massively fixated with whether we can get 7th or 6th or whatever, just want to see the team finish the season improved overall strength wise from the start of the season and continue to show that their work ethic has become ingrained. January and indeed summer again are big windows for us (meaning keeping hold of players not just acquiring them) so it's always a case of looking at the overall team strength rather than individuals for me. Go insane thinking of it any other way I reckon.
  13. Five points between them despite MUFC being 5 points better off now than they were this time last season, when they won the league.
  14. Freddie the Dolphin farted and caused a Tsunami? Paul Wyn fell off the Shields Ferry? and the same again for Alex's Gemmill/Steve Kean spot.
  15. Whos As Ian Hislop pointed out on HIGNFY this week, the British press actually exposed the hacking scandal, not the police or MPs who would have preferred everything to be swept under the carpet....and did so for a long time until the outrage peaked over 'real people' being hacked as opposed to 'celebrities'. Maybe the British constabulary and government should be consigned to history for not enforcing the law, rather than those members of the press that break it with impunity. How was Craig lauding MP's etc? Large elements of the tabloid press are cunts, the fact theres shite police and MP's too isn't much of a defence as far as I'm concerned.
  16. Bit harsh, majority of people on there are nice enough. Just a few very vocal bad ones. Big board as well tbf as in huge user base. Haven't read it but I hope the majority tell them to STFU.
  17. Nicky Butt was mainly having a laugh, we were clueless to extend his career. Abject lesson in just matching someones wages and then not demanding the same standards of them they'd been used to elsewhere. Only human nature that they'll just think you're a joke.
  18. More interested in knowing whether his partner 'Comedy Dave' is playing tbh. Ba got absolutely fuck all decisions at OT despite getting hoofed all over the place, it should feel like a holiday playing against that daft mug by comparison.
  19. de facto national team outside of international competitions (so 99.9% of the time in other words). Yet 'every ones against them' and its only other teams that are obscene when they spend massive money. Their free media PR is literally worth tens if not hundreds of millions £'s per year. Fucking do one Ferguson.
  20. tbh I don't want to know 'the facts'. They should remain what they always should have been. Entirely private. The only people who need to know what has gone on are his immediate family so they can have closure and the coroner for obvious reasons. The rest of us should simply remember what a truly gifted footballer he was and and even better human being and let him rest in peace. I would like to know (as a simple matter of fact) whether there was a tabloid story about to break on him. I don't want to know any of the details of that story at all, but I'd like to know if it was a factor. People have personal choice, and it was his personal choice to take his life, so I'd never go as far to say a tabloid is directly responsible for something like this, but if it was a factor I do want that to be known as they are the scum of the earth and theres never been a better time in recent history (phone hacking climate) to change journalistic practices for ever. I don't want Gary's private life to be a vehicle for it, just something that gives legitimate standing to ask the question in the first place. We're a fucking hopelessly gossip/celeb obsessed country (mainly female driven it has to be said), but a lot of it offends against our decency as a society these days. If (very very big if) there was any truth that a paper had been onto him, I'd want that exposed and his death to at least have that positive outcome.
  21. I'm just saying anyone can say 'flash in the pan' for practically anyone bought since promotion as it's valid to say "well x did it for season after season, y has only been here a year". So while its reasonable to say it, it makes it a bit daft too as it's essentially an unreal concept to begin with. And anyone not putting Enrique needs a psychiatric referral, he's the best toon LB in my lifetime, never mind the last 11 years, and thats despite being shit for consecutive seasons.
  22. Can just picture the scenes at the church: bride gracefully alighting the wedding limousine, clutching a bottle of water and howling "I haven't pissed myself" as Gemmill looks on proudly, adjusting his pacemaker to a spinal tap '11'.
