Not taking the piss, but I don't really see what these plus points are. You've got freedom of movement, but you're presumably paying more on rent than it would cost to mortgage the place (either that or your landlord is making a loss), and as house prices continue to rise, you're pricing yourself out of ever being able to enter the housing market.

If we had proper bike lanes in this country like they do in Holland, separated from the road, where you could actually ride around with a reasonable chance of surviving, I think I would actually use my bike a bit. Not for anything daft like. But this extra tax will make no difference whatsoever to public transport or to things like bike lane facilities, and all they'll be doing is pricing people out of using their cars. Pisstake.

I also once got duped off a kindly looking black man who had this scam where he would claim that he'd been carjacked and had had his wallet taken and car stolen etc - middle aged bloke, in a suit, mobile phone etc. All fairly believeable. He used to ask you if you could lend him money for a train ticket to get home. I think I gave him $5, but he was adamant we go to a cashpoint as he needed more than that. I politely told him that that was all he was getting. A few months later the little fucker approached me again and tried the same thing.

I got my first mortgage through an IFA too. A ginger twat called Keith Storey. Anyway, he does all the business, having informed me I wouldn't have to pay anything etc. etc. Then at the end of it all he tries to sell me all these insurances (critical illness etc). I was working for PwC at the time who have their own in-house policies on all these sorts of things, so I knocked them all back. Next day I get a phonecall from him going "I'm afraid you now are going to have to pay me for setting the mortgage up seen as I won't be getting my usual commissions on the insurances." Anyway, by this stage I was dealing direct with Nationwide, having opted for a tracker with them, so I didn't actually need anything from him anymore, so he never did get any cash off me, the prick.

Sounds like a ridiculous idea tbh - road tax is expensive enough without them coming up with better ways to pull your eyes out. It's a great film you idiot. It struck me that the Brighton riot scene was ten times as convincing as the violence seem in the Green Mile or Football Factory. Get Carter was also great though.
