1. Errr, I know. But that's not a reason to ask him it when he's in front of 20,000 people. Was it designed to make him feel uncomfortable? 25547 I thought nearly all the questions in the press conference were utterly unfair. Why the fuck would he want to talk about clubs he's not joined? Just designed to make him feel uncomfortable and justify their 'he's going to Liverpool' stories all month. This was clearly backed up by Souness/Shepherd's comments after the mics were 'turned off'. 25552 Aye you do get the impression that any and all reporting tomorrow will be from the "Why Owen didn't go to Liverpool" perspective rather than the "Why Owen signed for Newcastle" one. I expect a lot of articles to make comments about how he looked like he didn't want to be here etc.
2. I hope to fuck he's sacked his "advisers".
3. Errr, I know. But that's not a reason to ask him it when he's in front of 20,000 people. Was it designed to make him feel uncomfortable?
4. Aye he looked a total prick. And why spoil the moment by making his first question "So Michael....tell us....Liverpool was your first choice, wasn't it?" What a knobjockey.
5. I wanted us to get Nobby for cash and keep Millner here as people forget how much we lack in cover as a squad. But i can see Villa's point of view as they have little or no time to find a replacement for Nobby so they need to get a player in. Should this happen, I'd hope we would try and get them to agree to having Millner until January then they can buy a player of their own and we can have Millner back, but i doubt we will. 25287 Aye you're right about the cover, and that sounds fair enough. As things stand though, given the chance between Milner and Solano, I'd take Solano and then welcome Milner back at the end of the season with a lot more Prem experience under his belt, and hopefully the better player for it.
6. Does being married really count as cheating on your mistress? A quick Google would have told that dopey lass that his marriage was televised live on Peruvian TV FFS. You can't get much more married than that.
7. Bloke on Sky is now reporting that the deal has been agreed as long as Milner will agree to go the other way. So you know who to blame if it falls through.
8. Yes, of course we have, but as that money hasn't been recieved, it does make it easier though. 24768 How? 24774 From a cash flow point of view it does make things a bit easier. 24777 That's exactly it. 25002 I'm surprised to hear someone seriously saying that cash flow concerns, at least as they're being suggested here, would play a major part in a 16m deal, I thought Gem was taking the Michael. 25013 If Real still owe us money on the Woodgate deal, then we didn't need to have 16m in cash on hand to fund this one. Paying the net would therefore make things easier from a cashflow point of view. Does none of the stuff AF is wittering on about though.
9. Anyone stupid enough to think that we would have a release clause for half of what we've just paid shouldn't have a job writing for the Beano, never mind a local rag.
10. Sell Jenas: Dr cash: 7,000,000 Cr Players at Cost: 5,000,000 Dr Accum. Depreciation: 2,000,000 Cr Profit on sale: 4,000,000 Accountancy is fun. I made the numbers up, btw.
11. No offence, but that looks like a flyer for an absolutely shocking nightclub.
12. No. So Owen "cost" £16m. What do you think happens to the £8m for Jenas? 24855 You don't include assets on your balance sheet? What manner of balance sheet is this? You're not even self-employed are you?
13. Am I gonna have to get all chartered accountancy on your asses?
14. I thought you didn't like management speak, David? 24785 Just cos I'm right.
15. Yes, of course we have, but as that money hasn't been recieved, it does make it easier though. 24768 How? 24774 From a cash flow point of view it does make things a bit easier. I still reckon he was free.
16. Ah well. Would have been nice, but not the end of the world.
17. You've answered your own question. The reports of him being worth 15-20m were "crap". 24669 Thats fair but I question whether the sale has been for tactical reasons, more to balance the books. I have been a big critic of Jenas but with our injury record selling players may come back to haunt us! 24681 I know what you're saying, but I don't see how selling a player who's been nothing but disappointing for us on at a profit can be anything but a good thing. Keeping him in as "another warm body" in case of injuries when he's clearly a very saleable asset wouldn't make any sense.
18. It was both at different times. Souness and Shepherd got an ovation for what frankly has been a fantastic piece of business. Where's the nightmare? 24661 Fair play to them on the transfer, but I thought the fans were finally seeing sense regarding Souness. 24679 Aye, you're right. Souness Out chants would have been entirely more appropriate. Welcome to Newcastle, Michael.
19. You've answered your own question. The reports of him being worth 15-20m were "crap".
20. You're definitely right about people being too hard on him when he first came. A lot of people had made their minds up before he'd even managed one game. To be fair the jury is still out, but he certainly wasn't given a fair crack of the whip by a lot of people.
21. It's class. It's like he's going....."Go on.....sign it.......O.......W......E.....N.....YESS!!!" 24618 Souness: "What you looking at Thompson?" *Phil Thompson slinks away to cry some more*. 24624 "Are you gonna cry Phil? Gonna squirt a few?"
