The old Alan Smith we are all hoping for wasn't even that good. He was decent and looked to have some potential but was nowhere near as good as people seem to remember hence him playing in midfield a fair bit even at Leeds. He had a purple patch at Manchester United when he went on a decent run of scoring a goal every game but that was short lived and with the players in that team you are going to get a lot more chances. I need to have a little hope though so am praying someone has told him during his time away that forwards actually shoot and score goals so he can get over that fear that Ferguson obviously put into him to try and keep him disciplined enough to try and play in a DM role.
