It's difficult for me, in a normal football club £35m would be too good to turn down for a player who's only been a first team regular for 18 months (12 of which were in the Championship). IF the money is reinvested properly then it's a good move imo, however the likelihood is it'll just go towards Ashley's continued raping of the club.

For me its now all about the summer. It we dont spend a lot then we finally will have no doubt about his intentions. To be fair there's only you and Skidmark that don't see the guy for what he is. I disagree. I think there was quite a few on this forum who were starting to believe that with the likes of Tiote and Ben Arfa, getting contracts for the likes of Carrol sorted out, that we were on the up and heading in the right direction. The progress since relegation would never satisfy the likes of Leazes, but I think a lot of Ashley haters still had some belief creaping in that the club was heading in the right direction. Carrols sale has stalled that belief for me, which is why I say the summer spending bill will be make or break. I can't deny there's been a couple of potentially good moves like the ones you've mentioned, but sadly the rest of the shit outweighs any good gestures for me. Imo they are more likely distractions to paper over the mulitple cracks. A leopard never changes his spots and Ashley has been proven to be a lying bastard in the past - I could be tempted to give Ashley some breathing room to do the right thing but he continues to surround himself with scrotums like Llambias who really bring nothing to the club but disruption and aggrovation.

Andy Carroll aftermath(press conf/interviews etc)

Charming man that Derek Llambias.... How can this odious turd be allowed anywhere near our club when he comes out with stuff that makes me feel like this?... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bkaVndO0yg -

Liverpool bid £35 million+ for Carroll

His advisor would to busy wanking into a bag of cash to worry what the fans would be thinking Seriously though. Andy Carroll's stock with NUFC fans is of zero concern to Carroll's advisors. its also of zero stock to Andy Carroll With the sort of money being talked about why would he give a shit? -

I doubt he's thought that far ahead. He probably doesn't think further than the end of his cock actually. Judging by the look of previous conquests I'm not even sure he was capable of thinking that far ahead -

On a side note, fancy being hated within your home town so much that you'll struggle to return there from that point onwards without getting grief should you decide to go out of an evening... knowing you're despised by people you grew up around who you'd have been able to class as friends... don't think I'd want to do that... ... well, not without getting a hefty amount of cash to compensate -

Even assuming that it's true. Why would Carroll beg? All he has to say is that he isn't interested and he's not moving. Is Ashley now Tony Soprano? I was wondering about that actually. I mean Carroll signed a new deal last October didn't he? If he had said 'no' then surely that would be the end of it, it's not like he'd have been chucked in the reserves because as a club we'd have tried to keep his appeal to potential buyers come the summer. I don't know, he didn't look exactly upset in the pics of him arriving at Liverpool tbh. I'd think it's more likely Ashley wanted the money and so did Carroll, they're probably both as bad as each other when it comes to shitting on the fans - in the cold light of day unless you're already on a tidy wedge you're not going to turn down a pay rise of the sort I suspect Carroll's going to be getting at Liverpool. -
Fair point. Maybe trying to disguise the fact that Tottenham has been pretty quiet in this window. That's what I'd expect from an allegedly dodgy, brown envelope loving, used car salesman, wheeler-dealing, saggy faced, Landan wanka... not that I'm saying that Arry of course.
-
We'll probably find out after about 3 injuries. True, more to the point Ashley will be ear-marking them as potential sources of future income for his gambling habits no doubt, if they prove half decent.
-
How the heck (and why the heck) are Tottenham able to buy so many midfielders and convince them that they'll have some important part to play. Didn't play out in this case, maybe Adam would have rejected the offer, who knows. Would you really believe everything Arry says to be truth? Not sure I would.

You been there before bud? -
Quality.

You're giving him waaaay too much credit!
-
i still don't get why the fuck we weren't in for robbie keane. Because he's slow, shit, probably expensive (wage-wise) and old, not to mention the club wasn't expecting a bid of the magnitude it took to get them to sell Carroll - plus I wouldn't give the club credit enough to think that far ahead.

I suspect some may have serious considerations about staying further than the summer tbh, unless we spend a fair chunk to reinforce any ambitions we might have. -
What's these young lads Spear and Airey like?

He's only stating the obvious. I expect the plan was to repay Ashley's loan as soon as it looked like we might be doing enough to stay in the prem. He said: "I've had a good laugh this afternoon watching stuff coming out of Newcastle about how they didn't want to sell him, how hard they've fought to keep him, they've pulled out all the stops, and he's handed in a transfer request but they've battled it all the way. My god. Every time they sell a player, one of these clubs, they make the player put in a transfer request to make it look like they didn't want to sell him." He added "One of the fanniest fings I've ever seen". Fucking HATE that cunt Sour grapes on Arry's part that he didn't get Carroll tbh I was being sarcastic

Imo £35m is far too good a price to turn down on someone who's only been a first team regular for 18 months and 12 of those were in the Championship. I'm not saying Carroll isn't a good player and to the right club (in this case Liverpool) worth a fair amount, but even if he ends up scoring plenty for the Scousers and becoming an England regular it's unlikely they'll ever sell him for much more surely? Incidentally I wonder if there will be any sell on cluase (over a certain fee). I'm sure whatever happens Carroll will end up scoring against us on every return match against us, on a personal note I now disregard him as a Newcastle Utd fan and disown him entirely (purely a spiteful opinion of my own, especially as I hate the Scousers) - I'm not saying he had much choice in wanting to go and I'm sure the financial incentives are compelling but for someone who apparently wanted to be just like his boyhood hero of Alan Shearer and play as Newcastle's No9 he's not showing it that well. Saying that I guess it's a bit harsh because by the time Alan Shearer came back to us he'd already won the Premiership and was on a decent wage (for the time), though he could have won a lot more by going elsewhere and he had plenty of opportunity. On a side note we can't assume the 'transfer request'was a PR stunt because it's not something we want to hear but on the same note I wouldn't put anything past this club. I suppose it comes down to (1) does Carroll think he'll do better with Liverpool and have more of a chance of playing for England? (2) Is Carroll using this as a way of earning more money in his short, potentially mercenary career as a footballer, regardless of which team he supposedly supports? Or (3) he's another Gazza, Chopra, etc who's been let go by the club they love due to the club either not seeing the potential or just wanting the money? If I thought the club itself would see nearly £40m going straight back in to players then I'd feel a tad less agrieved but I can't see that happening. If the money went a good way towards Ashley fucking off, again I'd feel a tad less agrieved though again I can't see that happening either (now Ashley has a taste for the sort of windfall he can get from bringing up and selling youth players I fully expect him to lean even more in that direction and of us being a selling club). All in all while I'm a bit saddened by Carroll going I can't help thinking that selling him for £35m is good business after the bids had come in. If we'd rejected the bids and Carroll had been unsettled, leading to a poor second half of the season there wouldn't have been a cat in hell's chance of getting anything like £35m, or at least I wouldn't have thought so. I can't see Liverpool ever selling him on for much more either in the future regardless of how good he gets, my only gripe is my doubts we'll see any of the money going to the right parts of the club instead of Ashley's pocket. Oh, and one more thing, if I hear one more person on Talksport say Ashley wiped out our debts I'm going to punch someone...
