I passed 2nd time, had a disaster of a 1st test where I failed coming out of the test centre. I'd urge any 17 year old who can afford it to do it straight away though. I know loads of people who couldn't be arsed back then and now really regret it and don't really have the time to learn. When your 17 you're probably at 6th Form and can do it in free lessons easily. Once you start work it gets tricky.
