Doubtful, for all the praise Gibson gets he's only marginally better than Fat Fred in picking managers. Yeah, they really do look in the shit. Viduka was massive for them, and probably helped Yakubu out as a partner and Woodgate could easilly get an injury anytime. And whenever Boateng gets an injury or suspension they tend to collapse! Such a shame, i mean their fans are fantastic and deserve so much better! I really couldn't care less about them except for as you 'their fantastic fans' I do occasionally feel sorry for Steve Gibson who is a fantastic bloke and chairman. They've been rejected by lesser players than Owen, including Parker by the sounds of it, and will be rejected again if they try.

Its good money for us, and since Parker is one of the targets for fans its a good move for him, so i'd definitely take the offer. However our squad is getting ever smaller so we need to bring in a fair few players this summer!

Good point, although I still feel he owes us a good season, it would be more wasteful to lose him on a free than to cash in on him early and use the money to rebuild with players that actually want to play for us. He'd be a great asset when it comes to attracting top-class players though, like Shearer was. even when they know hes only discharging a debt of honour and will be out the door come the end of the season? If he starts the season here and there aren't any quotes of him saying he's off after a year then i think players would accept him as being a toon player an want to play alongside him, if they were of that opinion. Also whilst i can see the idea that it could be worse next year, the positive side is the effect having Owen in the team scoring as he does, could have on the coming season and the really positive side that everything goes well enough to convince him to stay longer.
