Did you mean not as much a gamble? Sports all about gambling in one way or another. SJH took a gamble with Keegan and it paid off almost in the biggest way possible. As you say, McClaren is just meh. I don't dislike him the way I did with Pardew and I don't think he's a dinosaur the way everyone did with JFK. But this club needs a lift and Ashley was talking like he wanted to give it a lift. But appointing McClaren just shows me that he still just wants to do exactly what we've been doing for years and all talk of winning something is just bollocks. This will excite no one except perhaps CT, although I suspect he's just back to his wumming best there!

Aye Bell has looked particularly bad this year. At least balance got a centure in the West Indies so it's only really this series that's been a shocker. Not great timing like obviously!

If you look at the number of votes on those films on there you'll see that Mad Max has about 140k votes whereas Shawshank at number 1 has about 1.4m. Not that the votes people have cast so far aren't valid but that's an ever changing list and I'm pretty sure that if you looking again three month from now it will have dropped significantly and come this time next year it probably won't be on there at all. When a film first comes out you tend to see only people who really like it or hate it vote. But people who weren't that interested and didn't bother to go see it at the pics will vote later and their scores will tend to bring it down to a realistic level. -
Ah right, I'm not sleeping much! Aye they have been ever since the very first episode tbh.

I think McClaren is comfortably the most likely appointment now. I'm not totally against him but when you see who the likes of West Ham, Watford, Derby and even the tramps are talking about, he's a pretty underwhelming prospect. He's certainly not going to excite anyone or entice those who have cancelled their tickets to go back.

Your point escapes me there Fish

Not my mum I feel I must clarify! Actually does anyone else use Firefox? For some reason when I'm typing on here through firefox it shows up as one big ever increasing line of text rather than wraping round the box. It makes it a nightmare to follow what I'm typing when I get to the end of the screen. It never used to do it so I assmum it's something I've inadvertently done.

They've caught up as far as the books have gone with the Children Of The Forrest so I assmume they're waiting for new material from GRRM before continuing that story.

Aye the White Walker thing was massive for me. The whole story is supposed to be based on the threat of the army of the dead yet five books/seasons in and we'd seen nothing of them. I'm all for a big build up but I think (particularly for the show as you can get away with talking about them more in the books) their real threat needed to shown. As someone has pointed out to me this morning, it was a bit reminicent of the zomibies on world war Z they way they swarmed. It was so good that I really forgot about the rest of the episode. Mind you, after being dissapointed by the way they've been creating scenes just to have some tits in recently, I missed them when they were gone this episode!

Jonas Gutierrez and Ryan Taylor released

This tbh. I can't see why they couldn't have spoken to them before they left. They've known for a long time they wouldn't give them a new contract and I'm sure they new they were both heading off to Ireland. It just lacks any decency. -

It's defintely not the 31st best film in history. -
We do love a good collapse!

One of the best episodes there's been in ages last night. Certainly the best of the last two seasons.
-
Maybe. I was thinking about Agar as an example of what you're talking about but I've no idea if there's anyone remotely similar we could try. We should have certainly tried something by now though. Looks today like we need to learn to bat against spin though. A draw looks a long way off at the minute!

Watched the new Avengers film last night. Quite enjoyed it but not as much as the first one. The bad guy being a robot was probably the main problem for me since it's been done a million times. -
Yeah I don't think 27 is too old to be coming into the team, I just meant that he's not a young kid. I know very little about him but I think it was Atherton yesterday who basically was saying we have no one to pick from. I took that as meaning he didn't really rate Rashid either. Maybe he was just meaning in comparission to Swan or the seamers we have.
-
Rashid's 27 though. I know that he could still have a good few years left but he's not what you'd call a youngster. I know what you're saying though and I agree if there is someone out there. I don't know enough about the county players but from what the comentators were saying yesterday there's not much in the way of options. I still think Rashid should have been given a go in the West Indies and this series but from what they seem to be saying I'm not convinced he's the answer.
-
Is there any other options for England in terms of spin though? Tredwell has been the nearest to playing and he's not anything startling. If none of the spinners are very good you might as well pick another batsman who can spin a bit.
-
I think McClaren would do ok and he's a safeish option but he's not going to be the starting point for anything exciting. Viera is a lot more interesting, despite his lack managerial experience he has a good standing in the game and given his history of being a winner, you'd think he'd only come if he had some sort of assurances that he'd be given the tools to have a chance at doing something here. If there is any truth in Ashley (personally I don't believe there is) then Viera or someone like him, needs to be who we target.

You should have that as your sig!

Actually Pardew's worst quote must be when he thanked himself for signing whoever it was.
