  1. Yes - I do fit the cliche of the left winger who's quite right wing on crime - but I also don't want to see people getting 40 years for being in fight that ends in tragedy (not related to this case but you do get odd cases like that). that isn't pre-meditated murder though is it ? But it depends what sort of murder ie mowing someone down in a car that you've nicked, and you don't have insurance is the long haul in my book, for instance, irresponsible and should get the book thrown at them and be seen by the public to have the book thrown at them. We aren't talking about someone having a fight in the Bigg Market here. I totally agree with Alex. Early release is bollocks, it should be going the other way if anything. why not though, both of those actions are not those that personify a civilised society. it could be argued that the stealing of a car is less violent in its inception (unless its a car jacking at knife or gun point) than a drunken dust up. don't get me wrong i agree with the sentiment of your posts and the thread in general, i just think the line you've drawn may not be as clear or cut and dry as you perceive it.
  2. Define "heavy metal from the 80s onwards" please Chez? Music falling into the category 'heavy metal' from the around 1980 onwards The timing bit is not specific, just a vague reference to the decade and bands that were formed during or after. 70s heavy rock bands are therefore excluded from the generalisation. There might be an odd exception you could point me towards but certainly nothing well known/popular that i heard ever did anything for me other than desperate boredom. See I'm no fan of metal by any means but Soundgarden were a metal band; Ministry, NiN, etc were often regarded as metal; the whole grindcore genre including Cathedral, Carcass, etc were classified as metal. It's not as if we're talking Warrant, Def Lepoard, Aerosmith, etc, who without a doubt were all shite but were they really metal? Bon Jovi, G'n'R were they metal? Where does heavy rock or glam (cock) rock finish and metal begin? WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! hold on a minute, while i may agree that some of the stuff they came out with in the 80's was crap, Aerosmith of the 70's was fucking fantastic, Sweet Emotion is my all time fave "classic rock" song which is what most people would say Aerosmith is, a rock band (the classic prefix is just a chronological place holder)
  3. cheers!...spent loads of time scouring the net for the best deal, spent just under $2K. would have been more if i bought in canada which is why i went with a US seller, luckily i live 5 min from the border and had it delivered to a pick up in washington, went down to get some gas and picked it up, duty free so to speak. edit....was feeling nervous about buying online, but the stone is nicer than anything i saw in person better cut quality and clarity as well, may have been due to choosing an oval cut instead of a round cut. oval looks bigger than a round of the same weight. I've dispatched the motherfucker. Stop calling me. ....huh?

condolences SG it's difficult when unexpected, had a mate die in an accident when i was fresh out of highschool. it seemed surreal when i found out, i didn't cry or even seem affected by it at all, until the funeral and his sister said her goodbye. i was a mess after that.
  5. Job Done!!.....she said yes, had a lovely weekend in a beautiful secluded hotspring we had to ourselves, weekend couldn't have been any better. thanks for all the input and well wishes.
  6. put some clothes on, Ahab is off the coast of South Shields! .....
  7. I know you're not daft and you'll know yourself when you want to do something like this, but don't be pressured into getting married to any fucker. I honestly think mid-20s is too early to be getting married - you'll both be different people by the time you're 30. Everyone's different like, but I'll be a fortnight shy of my 36th birthday when I get married later this year. agree with this 100%, i'll be 40 in Dec.
  8. put some clothes on, sea level is set to rise don't cha know!
  9. .....just fell off my chair, i could have sworn LM and RW agreed on something..

  11. cheers....you'll have to wait till I'm back in cell service range. going to a remote secluded natural hotspring, hope the snow is gone from there as it is north facing and the hike in could be significantly more arduous if it isn't. It'll be a fucking sight more arduous coming back if she says no. Best of luck mate, hope it all goes well. ....fucker! no kidding, i've thought of that already....which is to say i've chosen to ignore that possibility, but thanks for reminding me. if she says no, i'll send her back to the truck on her own and drink the bottle of bubbly myself before returning.....
  12. its a nice touch, I did it, go ahead and do it. When my daughter decides to get married, I'd like whoever its going to be to ask me. Edit. I would ask her first though, then probably tell her you want to ask her dad......not sure I did this, but I can't imagine asking her dad first then she says no ! And it might piss her off if you sort of took her answer for granted too. fair enough but how do i keep it a 'surprise' and do all that, to me the surprise factor out weighs the uncertainty factor. i figure its all in the question asked, not for permission to propose, but rather for his blessing/best wishes for me to propose. that way the answer is not assumed. cheers for the input

  14. thats what I figured (and planned). he's a fairly traditional kinda guy so i figured he'd appreciate it...cheers
  15. ok ring sorted, gonna pop the question this weekend. one more question though, should i be asking her dad for his permission to marry his daughter? is that an antiquated bit of hoop jumpery or a serious consideration? how many of you did this before proposing? i'm nervous as fuck even though i know she'll say yes, so i'm over thinking this ....
  16. disagree...if fergie had managed to get through the season undefeated I would have agreed, but no losses over the course of a season is nothing to joke about.
  17. your alter-ego it would appear. So you weren't a submariner then ?
  18. and fwiw that wasn't the question, the question was...... What about the people who go and meet people from all over the world and study them and their interactions, write them down, take them back to their comfy chairs and (from their notes) pass on this information to others? ....but then why start answering the questions put to you now? might as well keep with the status quo and make no sense what so ever..... or do you really believe that all books have been written in a vacuum, and that no one in the history of publishing has ever gone out and actually done research or interviewed people or written down their own 'real world' experiences ?
  19. such as who ? Meets who ? ...does not compute...zzzzt zzztt.... ok Mohammed. The question is quite straightforward btw ........ ie if someone meets YOU, its quite obvious they are listening to a brainwashed pc correct hippy....waste of time. i do not want this record...it is scratched.

  21. King is my guilty pleasure, what haven't you read? different seasons is brilliant, the stand (bit long but a great story)is my favorite, the bachman books is awesome the real running man story shits all over the travesty that was AH-nolds mooovie, and the long walk is a scary commentary (or view into the future considering it was written +30 years ago) on reality programming. just read his latest collection as well, Full Dark No Stars, it was meh i've read enough of his stuff that I can see the twist coming form a mile away.
