  1. I truely believe that sometime over the next three or so years, the same will happen with us. Despite what the detractors say, we are a club with history, and our stadium and support base are a great attraction to potential buyers. However, I don't think that a purchase by a multi-billionare would automatically mean success ... but at least it would put us on an equal playing ground with the other clubs owned by rich bastards.

  4. Well, well, well, Pompy are up a goal (as are Boro).
  5. Unless something happens very soon in a Man City-type way, they are fucked.
  6. A quick question to the A-League followers here (and I'm one of them): Do you think that the standard of footy is worse from the last few seasons? As a Glory supporter, I have to agree that we've won despite our playing but that a win is a win. However, overall, I don't think that the quality is any better or worse than the last few years (and at least the competition is closer) ... and yet the crowd levels are really down at the moment. I think scheduling might have something to do with it, and very soon it may get better with the finish of the AFL and NRL seasons. Just throwing the question out there.
  7. I'd say, in our usual fashion. That is to say, acrimoniously. Nah, not really.
  8. Yup ... if we're like this come, say, end of December, I'll start to chill the top-shelf bottle of sparkling. Not to say that I'm not chuffed at the moment with results.
  9. Just looking at the Guardian's setup of stats for the Prem and the League. We have equal best defensive record in all four divisions: Prem: Villa have let in five goals. Championship: Mighty Toon: 4 goals have slipped through Harper's and Krul's fingers. League One: Leeds have let through 4. League Two: Bournemouth have let through 4. How the fuck have we ended up with one of the best defensive records in the top four divisions of English football????
  10. This happened to Vince Grella just the other week (down in London, I believe). Fuck me, what a state of affairs. Yeah, I agree they can hire security, but they shouldn't have to.
  11. Really, the only other team is my hometown team: Perth Glory. Fully-paid member and attend all home matches. Otherwise, I do have an eye for Barca 'cause they play such stunning football. But I don't watch their games with any regularity. (Also, it makes me feel a bit of a bandwagoner). In Serie A, for no real reason why, I do have a soft spot for Palermo (maybe cause Beresciano plays for them). I do have Italian heritage in my background, so really I should find what the local team is for the region that my rellies come from (probably some piss-ant team).
  12. Yep, very enjoyable. And what's best is how they placed the in-jokes for the oldies (best was the red uniformed crew member jumping out of the ship), but still made to totaly accessable to the newbies.
  13. Buy him/her a season ticket now ... it's never too early. Congrats!!!!!!
  14. By the way, what's the news on Jonas returning? I can't seem to find anything.
  15. And the Mackems get done over by Burnley.
  16. I don't know whether to laugh or be scared! Very happy we went to the Hawthorns and left with a point.
  17. THIS IS WHAT WE WANT!!! BTW: Boro v WBA now 0-4. Boro are being thumped. That'll really dent Boro's spirits.
  18. How the hell do you get a photo so quick?
  19. Does the radio mention the reason for the Simpson sub?
  20. All I'm hoping is that the worst that'll come out of this is the teasing I'll get from the West Brom fan I have here at work. Come the weekend, the fact is that no matter what the result is between WBA v Boro, it'll work some way in our favour. We gotta bounce back at SJP and at least be in second place come the end of the weekend. The lads have to make sure this is the lowest we ever go in the table.
  21. www.nufcblog.org states that Shola's injury will keep him away for months rather than weeks: http://www.nufcblog.org/2009/09/kamara-cou...ransfer-latest/ Kinda makes the need for a new striker just that bit more urgent.
  22. Will be interesting, as this will be the first of our really scrappy games against 'lower-tier' opposition. Small team, small stadium, determined players, determined crowd--all looking for the 'big boys' scalp. But I'm sure that Chris is well aware of all this and so is the team. The boys look determined this season, and I'm sure that no type of snobbery on our part will play a factor. Plus, there is the added incentive of finding ourselves top of the league ahead of the weekend where our two closest rivals play against each other and at least one will drop points. If we play well against Blackpool and Plymouth, and WBA v. Boro ends in a draw (reasonably likely), come Saturday evening the table could be: 1. The Mighty Toon: Played 8, Won 7, Drawn 1, Lost 0 — 22 points 2. WBA: Played 8, Won 5, Drawn 3, Lost 0 — 18 points 3. Middlesborough: Played 8, Won 5, Drawn 2, Lost 1 — 17 points A more than three points lead would be great this early in the season.
  23. Hope that they don't get rid of Keane before we have our match there, 'cause if they get rid of him beforehand we'll have to deal with the new-manager-bounceback factor.
  24. Thing that struck me most about Shola's second against Reading was the inevitability of it. There was a spell of a couple of minutes where Reading didn't have a meaningful touch on the ball. Sure they headed away, but it was won and pushed forward once more. Nolan's sprint to keep it in play exemplified the energy and commitment of the entire team that game. and Shola's barely surpressed grin when he had the chance to make it a hat-trick was great too. Also? I think we're seeing his own personalised celebration, one arm out, the right hand on the badge. Nolan chasing what the Reading players thought was a dead ball really sums up what I love about the squad at the moment: going against expectations and putting the hard yards in. FUCKING LOVE IT! Cheers for the vid. Also, Fish, where did you get that photo of Shola from? I'd love to have that as a wallpaper.
