  1. Aye but thats the impact of political correctness, which is lamentable for many reasons. The point of the question is that British people have a very decent (if unequal) life and i dont see this issue as a major one for people's wellbeing.
  2. there are other countries that I could live in, but I don't see the relevance of this, I am English. I've gone where life has taken me, like yourself. But when I've been abroad I've shown respect for that particular country. I asked because the situation could be worse. I dont think its that bad in the UK.
  3. Out of interest, why would you want to look at photos while watching a movie and listening to an album all at the same time? While perhaps not wanting to use that exact configuration of applications, if anyone else came out with a similar system that didn't allow multi-tasking it would be derided as being useless. It's just about acceptable in a phone but on a tablet/netbook it renders it pretty useless for most modern users who like to flick between applications. I still dont get this, the iPod works over safari, iTunes plays inside iPhoto. If the application closes and opens instantaneously and saves where it is then i cant see how it makes a difference. I can see it being an issue on minor apps but not the built in ones. Since the iPod runs on iPhoneOS behind all applications then its safe to assume you can listen to music whilst working on iWork too. Have you used multi-tasking on a jailbroken phone? Has anyone on here? I have, serves no purpose whatsoever. Am in San Francisco in March so will have a look at it in the store.
  4. Stevie / Leazes, which country do you reckon is currently the best in the world to live in? If you reply Britain then my next question will be, whats the fucking bother then?
  5. Haven't been like that since XP tbh, or even 2000 really. I've not had a single problem with Vista either btw. We are talking about tablets. You have a vista tablet? I was referring to the shit performance of Archos 9. You asked if the Archos resembled a modern Windows-based computer, and explained that by which you meant slow as fuck and crashes a lot. It's right there in your post. I was just saying that Windows-based computers haven't really been like that for like ten years now. I was joking in the first post but correct with the second? Hence the smiley?

  7. Out of interest, why would you want to look at photos while watching a movie and listening to an album all at the same time? I was thinking that too. So why is everyone asking about multi-tasking? I'm actually quite surprised by how little people understand the industry. Apple is moving into the segment with a nice, relatively cheap device. The aim of the investors and the business brains is to use this to unlock what other companies have so far been able to do.
  8. I'm not sure the tide is turning Parky but from a technical point of view i've always had my concerns about the science of predicting changes in climate and attributing cause to individual factors. This is really technical but here it is anyway .... i'd like to understand the second order uncertainty in the climate change modelling. First order uncertainty refers to the use of averages or means for model inputs (an average is not a value you will see every time you measure it). Second order refers to the parametric assumptions associated with the mean inputs (is it a gamma, beta, normal statistic etc). A model used to predict climate change suffers from both types of uncertainty (as all models do) in a much more extreme way than modelling other types of data. There are two philosophies in statistics, Frequentist and Bayesian. Using a frequentist approach to model the impact of changes in the current environment on the future climate, requires countless 'counter-factual' assumptions. True 'cause and effect' science requires proper experiments (removal of confounding data), which are not possible in climate change modelling. Therefore, each assumption introduces large first order and potentially limitless second order uncertainty. The Bayesian approach allows the 'prior beliefs' of the modellers to be incorporated into the predictive programmes. In the case of climate change, it could be more powerful but also more dangerous. I wouldnt accept any opinion from anyone on climate change modelling unless they could tell me about the uncertainty orders of the models used and explain the impact on the conclusions of the methods used to characterise this 'second order uncertainty'. I'm a bit of a climate change sceptic since i can see how the best models can be utter garbage if the inputs are uncertain. This is certainly the case when we dont know what would have happened to the variables we are looking at without human intervention on the planet. This is a debate about prediction imo, so if you want an example of how bad modellers are at predicting things, look no further than the banking sector. The one thing i take away from my own work is the massive gap in understanding between those who produce models and those who base their decisions on them. I'm not saying they are wrong (Happy Face reckons its 90% certain) but the devil is in the detail.
  9. Fulham, west ham and wigan join race....SSN
  10. I ran out of space for my books about 8 years ago. Wish i could afford a flat with a library tbh.
  11. Like the Sinclair C5 In what way? Watch the video, OSX is made for that shit. I'm always wary of "in the future we'll all..." type predictions. I can't see touch screens catching on...because after 7 hours at my desk my arms will be knackered. ...as much as I like Minority report and throwing thinks around a giant screen, people want to be lazier, not do MORE work. As i said, watch the video, thats the first thing they address. I'm not predicting they will take-off, just showing where the product will likely go in the future. Tell me, when you are multi-tasking on the archos (have music, photos and a movie all running with perhaps some office software) does it actually resemble a modern windows based computer? By that i mean slow as fuck and crashes a lot.

  13. Propaganda, I'm on about the ones in THIS country, holding our passport. It was something like 50%. Not sure their own propaganda is working, only 24% of Palestinian Terrorists approve of attacks on US civilians? Pretty lame extremists iyam.
  14. http://10gui.com/video/ This decade will see the death of the mouse and the introduction of multi-touch (flash will die too) which offers 'higher bandwidth interaction. The iPad, whilst looking a bit average now has been launched with the future in mind.
  15. Wow- congrats man! Is it your first? Cheers, yeah its the first one, not quite shitting myself yet but am getting there. I'm there too, man. I felt the little dude kick two nights ago. It's getting more and more real... I screamed like Homer when i felt him kick for the first time. Since then i've had trouble sleeping
  16. Actually I think he keeps it simple while Allardyce tried to be too clever before he'd even got the basics right. True that. Its fairly functional football, which is how many characterise Allardyce but with Hughton you could at least say he is trying to play to our strengths.
  17. this and if you are a good judge of a footballer like me it helps too. Stevie in the next post has a corker idea too, covering NUFC like John Gibson and getting presumably well paid for it too. Gibson will be on good wedge, as he's been there an eternity and comes from an age when journalists pay was not a joke. Anybody starting up in journalism should expect to struggle to make ends meet. The above is why I no longer have my dream job. Which opens up the debate, can it be a dream job if you are struggling to pay the bills? Alot of the writers for my magazine are struggling to get a job let alone make ends meet. Its sad as some of those who graduated last year have yet to find any work. Yup my friends the same did a journalism course last year and is back working as an accountant now Tell him news should be free so accountancy is the best place for him. *sarc mark.
  18. Allardyce without the offensive personality.
  19. Wow- congrats man! Is it your first? Cheers, yeah its the first one, not quite shitting myself yet but am getting there. Well done Adam. You'll make a great dad. Cheers James. Am made up its a lad but i think am the only one. Everyone else wanted a girl. I celebrated by getting horrendously pissed and singing the blaydon races to the bump. Not sure that helped. Singing to it always helps. Filter in the Mozart and some 80's jazz funk for good measure. 'Er indoors has got into The xx album so he's listening to good stuff. Got that Brian Eno app called Bloom the other day, reckon thats a winner for sending them off to sleep.

  21. Rivella mit gruntee extrakten.
  22. http://www.bilderberg.nl/hotels/gardenhotel/ Stayed at that place the last time i was there, its south of the centre so its very quiet but walking distance to some great local restaurants. 5/10 mins from town on the tram, or jump in a quick taxi. As for stuff to do, i wont recommend anything as it wont be appropriate.
