No competition. Souness.

It's historical, as the first engine designs were improved the power went up, but they didn't want to get confused with all their complicated calulations from the old design and change all the procedures, so they just changed the dial, or something like that. That doesn't make sense now I've read it back, but whatever, suffice to say, 'Engines to 111% means engines to full power (100%) for the Space Shuttle' Exception to the rule then. I just have this psychopathic reaction to people telling me that they are going to make a mathematically impossible effort. Footballers and pundits do with tiresome frequency. You never answered my pm btw.

Like the amps in Spinal tap go up to 11?
-
Not quite the same but people who 'give it 110%' are just mathematically retarded.

The board cant kick Freddy out as he is the board.

We played very direct football in one of our best performances of the season. First half home to AZ we played good stuff but it was very direct.

I bet she's fit though, right? Fit and visually impaired I reckon. She ain't nothin but a hound dog tbh lads. What do you lot take me for? No one can believe you are going to work on a saturday voluntarily. There has to be an ulterior motive??

I bet she's fit though, right? Thats a nailed on certainty.

Leeds gave us 20:20 Vision, the UKs finest house label.

The bloke knows how cheesy his bell is.

Johnny should be forced to explain why he randomly picked up a vodka coke and thew it over himself on saturday. Literally picked off the table and thrown straight over his t-shirt.

I thought it was a euphemism.

For going out in the early 90s there was no competition, Leeds by a country mile. Back to Basics, SOAKs / KAOS at the corn exchange and Up Yer Ronson. Best nights out in the whole country, nevermind Yorkshire. Sheffield had the Arches and that was it. Nowadays i wouldnt piss on the street in either of them.

What if we had beaten Blackburn on Saturday?
ChezGiven replied to Gemmill's topic in Newcastle Forum
Been wondering where to post this thought. I assume that when Fred gave Roeder the job at the end of last season that there was absolute no certainty over the appointment. First Roeder's reticence about the job and second the delay between Souness going and Roeder getting the job. On that basis its likely that Fred said that he had a season to prove himself, even putting a line in the sand like 50 points. The noises the other week about being given until christmas from Roeder made me think he had only been given the season to prove himself. Upshot is i think even if we had beaten Blackburn i still think that he would have gone at the end of the season as there had been no discernible progress over the year. -
Gemmill When we appointed Roeder I posted in various places that it felt like an opportunity missed to really get someone decent in. At least I had the sense to realise a long time ago that he needed to go - until a week or so ago you wanted him here next season. Wasnt HF's original point that appointing Allardyce will be repeating the same mistake?? Missed opp to get someone decent? A meringue?

So size doesn't matter? Sven is a massive cock by all accounts. FYP ATPTBQF Quoi? Altered the post to be quite fair?

It was me.

Lets gan for it. Good location too although being the landlord there would require some big muscle backing you up. Who's hard on here? Geordie Messiah is an obvious deterrent if he's willing to relocate from Edinburgh. Might put the paying punters off as well though. The perfect doorman, the only issue there would be health and safety. His sweat could make the floors slippy.

Me neither tbh.

So what did you mean when you hoped he got the England job "for Newcastle's sake" at the time we were looking for a Souness replacement? The battle of the uber-memories. FWIW am very sympathetic to what HF is trying to say. And for people who say 'football doesnt work like that' then i have to disagree too. Players change games, like Martins out of the blue equaliser at spurs. We only went on to get the three points because of that goal, so i reckon you can look at it like that. What other variables are there like? I do think Allardyce will be better but am not that excited about the next 2 seasons under him. If we get him. You can't simply blank out one player though. If Bolton haven't had Anelka they would have played someone else, if Newcastle haven't had Martins they would have played someone else, too. Who knows what those players instead would have achieved? In the case of Martins someone else might have performed better during the Spurs game? Maybe he had performed better in those other games Martins totally went missing and won us results then? IMHO the whole "without the goals from Anelka/Martins this or that would have happened" is far too simplistic and as much speculation as everything else. Exactly, does this really need to be explained though? In the sense that people's opinions can be clarified yes. In the sense that Isegrim doesnt specify how Carrol would have potentially scored or Luque would have come on and turned the game, then yes, that would need to be explained too. If either of you want to push the logic you would both need to explain how there was someone else in the squad who could have turned that game to address the question of how we would have secured the points without Martins. All opinion of course. So if it doesnt work like that, how do you price a player? How can you begin to evaluate the value of a player without a subjective judgement on how many goals they will score / keep out / set up and hence points on the board. Of course its not precise but those are the 'implicit' judgements being made when the market price is set. The notion of a counter-factual argument shouldnt be lost on you Rents. I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. Basically it all boils down to resources and how a manager uses them. Imo Allerdyce has had less resources and used what he has better than Roeder. Given the same team of players, I think the Allerdyce team would easily out perform the same Roeder one. Futhermore, I reckon Allerdyce will buy better. As you say, it's all about opinions. We'll see soon enough if indeed Allerdyce comes though. I was being sympathetic to the Owen / Anelka assessment and overall points of the two teams. Overall Allardyce will be better i'm sure of that.
