You'll always have fuckers like that though... as long as the machines dont take over that is...go on the Newcastle Online thread and look at the ref in the Derby game....we've always had them and football has thrived in the last 20 years, with many innovations that have been good for the game and the fans. Not this though. Its unecessary.

I know I sound like a silly old twat but its just the way I feel about this. Theres really no need for it.
-
tbh mate, I'm not an expert. But I do take an interest and thats how it comes across to this layman.
-
Offside isnt up for debate either, you're of or you're on. Diving as well. Replays to decide penalties? If youve got the technology you can get every single thing right. Look at cricket, the umpires might as well not be there. Thats what I dont want for football.
-
Cant deny much of that, but as I first said its the thin end of the wedge...some prick on Sky will start chirping on about offsides, then diving, then what?....its precisely how and why its being sanctioned by Blatter now. I understand this sounds a case of "after the horse has bolted" but tv now dictate fixture dates and kick off times where once they were the preserve of the governing body of the sport. Now tv wants to interfere with how the laws of the game are interpretated all because theres now a huge tv audience. I understand how this sounds, but they can frankly fuck off on this one for me. The FA is an old fashioned, out dated mausoleum full of pricks with their own agendas. And I dare say loads of them think tv replays are a good idea. But the FA used to be in charge of a game and now they are subserviant to the business they allowed to replace their game as we used to know it. I dont long for lots of things that came with football 20 odd years ago, am not a luddite either. I'm just fuckin sick of change for the sake of commercial gain. For me a line has to be drawn somewhere. Might as well be here, because its a step too far.

So the ref has been irrelevent for 125 years?...
-
Your first two sentances are a bit contradictory, you make it sound like they were sat around in 1888 saying "cant wait for the telelvison to be invented!" "The referee's decision is final" was certainly good enough for everyone, let him make (or not) the decisions, up until big money became involved. Because of the global nature of the game the rules had to be strongly defended to maintain absoloute and blanket integrity. Rugby,Cricket and Tennis have basically introduced and undermined the ref's authority in those sports at the behest of Rupert Murdoch. The technology has been introduced since he started bankrolling these sports (in this country anyway). It's largely for the benefit of the armchair fan, which makes it a commercial decision and not a sporting one. Football loses something without contentious decisions iyam, its been part of the sport since its inception and I dont want it to change from that becasue its convenient for a meglomaniac fuckin crook.

Blatter was telling people to fuck off about it till a couple of years ago.....the pricks in the media will drive this, as they have with getting it to be even considered by FIFA in the first place. So you think it would be ok just for goaline technology?....you wouldnt have wanted it to be used for something like Maradonna's "hand of god"?..."if its sat there at the side of the pitch, why not use it?..." Football has been fine without it for 125 years, but now because people stand to lose money and status it has to be changed?....its the tail wagging the dog. For me they can fuck off with their technology.
-
You cant have goaline technology because then there will be a call for it to be used for offside, then diving, then something fuckin else...where do you stop?...

It was aimed at me, and I can explain....the lads involved used to go on a lot of "benders" i.e. piss ups and they got this label attached to them. One of them lives near me, and used to come to games regularly. Hes a 50 something 18 stone stella drinking psychopath, but he does have a nasty side to him too...

Wasnt at Derby, listened to the unfolding horror via "Sport on 2"....thats Radio 2 MW kids, no real digital tv or radio coverage on Saturday afternoon, back then Jeff Stelling was still stealing womens underwear off washing lines in Hartlepool.

Looks like somebody's found the season reveiw video....this is shockingly crap and utterly brilliant at the same time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeVjOcKWxNs&feature=related

Well I'll leave it up to Leazes to educate you then, you lucky lad

I was there, jammed a ticket on the Berwick supporters bus. They got tickets for the last away games of every season back then.....dont think they even exist now...some lads I've ment since then say they got in after Terry Mac came out of the players entrance where they were hanging around on the off chance and gave them some spares the club had for the directors box. The NO is story is great, but it doesn't really mention the level of violence going on troughout the game and the first pitch invasion that had to be cleared by police horses. On the way back we stopped off in Gateshead where some mackem was giving the bus driver some shit in a kebab shop, so the bus driver put this fucker's head through the shop window. The driver was an obviously sober employee of a company called Scottish Citylink, in full uniform at the time, but he was also an ex member of the lengendary "Bender Crew". Ask your dads abouth them kids, or Leazes That game and the Inter game at the San Siro are the most intense experiances I've had following Newcastle....apart from being in the clock stand at roker once, but we didnt last in there long....

Ben Arfa's been a naughty garcon.... http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/07/03/uk-soccer-euro-france-idUKBRE8620GL20120703?rpc=401&feedType=RSS&feedName=sportsNews&rpc=401

Can we do a swap deal, Madras for Cabayeaye?
-
Its Levy. Clubs dont trust washed up ex players with their cash anymore. Apart from Man Utd, obviously.
-
All thats true, but Dekka and Pardew have both been in print in the last few months blatantly trying to sell him. The see him as this summer's Andy Carroll. Its difficult to say if a deals been fixed, a lot of things have come out of the blue transfer wise lately at NUFC.
-
What a pile of shite. He contradicts himeself....so there was no "golden age" of English international football before the premier league's foreign invasion....it strikes me as theres not been much of one since
-
Soooo...Twente think they can get more than 12mill for him?.....I really cant see it being from Boroussia, so if theres another club in for him willing to pay that then fair play play to them. I dont think this is over yet for NUFC...always a good tactic to walk away, if you're confident of them coming back.....

When was that mate?.. Went to one of Oasis's last ever gigs at the BIC in Bournemouth and its plainly that "type" they attract because it was the same at Hampshire CC's Rosebowl a few years before that, with the added bonus of a planned meet between Southampton and Portsmouth football mobs. That was actually the most violent public event I've ever attended. I'm seeing them at V fest at Chelmsford where am hoping the vast majority of the twats will have the Roses thing out of their system and its only the trustafarian-student types that V usually attracts (?...not been before, just what I heard...) that will be in attandance...

It was huge where we lived in Scotland (Kelso) when I was a kid....its a tiny place, less than 8000 people but it had 2 lodges....where the old man was born which is a village of less than 500 it was almost fuckin compulsory to join the lodge there. When the old man went back to work there after he had finished his national service he worked for the local bulider, a prominent local mason, and got on famously with the boss's son, until the day the son turned round and said (sounds just like what JawD posted) "have you ever thought about joining the masons?"...think the old man just looked at him before saying "I've just done 2 years in the jungle with the Army...Its put me off joining fuckin anything,ever,again..!" That was the last day the boss's son ever talked to him, or the boss for that matter...petty doesnt really cover the attitude back then, don't know what its like now... My Grandfather was also a mason, although not really a practising one. Think it all came to an end one day when he'd drunk too much whisky and ended up in the cells for the night for battering some unfortunate individual. At the Sherriff Court the Sherriff addressed him: "You were seen in the town square in Duns the worse for drink causing a nuisance, being violent to others etc etc...what have you got to say for yourself?"...after some consideration Grandad replied " Well I wasnt as pissed as you were at the masons ball last year...." that was it,the gavel slammed the desk, he was taken down and got 30 days for contempt of court Dont think its as strong round there now, same as anywhere else I reckon, its a died a death a bit in recent years.....Leazes attitude is common by the sounds of it

Those pointing out Spain are boring have a point.....on the days that Arsenal dont click into gear completley a gooner ST holder of my aquaintance says theyre sterile, dull and passionless....iyam he should know better as hes been going since the late 70s and can remember Arsenal at their long ball worst, there again, his ST is 1200 quid a year, more than twice what mine costs. Spains dominance of possesion can be a bit dull, but that is essentially how they defend i.e. if the opposisition dont have the ball, they cant score, which is about as easy on the eye as England not bothering with the ball too much v Italy, but makes the chances of actually winning a game a lot greater..Hodgson take note etc.. Spain struggled to break a couple of sides down who had their tactics spot on, especially Portugal and Italy in the first game. Too little emphasis is placed on the sometimes excellent tactics of the opponenets, in the BBC studio especially. Too much glib generalisation from those who should know better makes for an ill informed general public...that'll be you Lawro, and any ex Liverpool centre half of the early 80s who criticises any team for playing dull possesion football really needs to have a fuckin word with themselves. Spain weren't at their brilliant best for a couple of games and their names mud, you shouldnt be able to make shit like that up, but obviously am wrong in that thought. Spain are like Arsenal, only better, by a long way as well. They actually win things. Not that I'd criticise Wenger for that, with his budget and the new stadium to move to and pay off his record over the last few years is briliant iyam, and you cant come up a team thats been recruited by billioanires and paid accordingly in international football, you've got to deal with the cards you've got. Thats the other thing, this generation of Spanish players is the best any country that I've seen have by light years. But theyre only human and dont do it every time, but thats the only way theyre like any other team.
