Republicans and racists posing as Republicans have been saying Obama is a socialist since the primaries. As far as why socialist is a bad word over here, there's really no reason for it. Decline in education spending for nearly every year of my life has lead to an entire generation that has no ability to reason for themselves. I wholeheartedly mean this when I say it- if you polled 100 people here who were heard throwing around the term "socialist" to name a famous socialist, they'd not be able to tell you a single one. As for why the right decided to loft this moniker onto Obama, who the fuck knows. It allegedly revolves around his idea to nationalize healthcare. Ironically, none of them seemed to have a problem with Bush nationalizing the fucking banks. Really though, it's just repeated on Fox News a lot and there is still a surprising amount of my countrymen who believe we have a free media in this country that is truthful to it's viewers when their respective correspondents cover news stories when of course, in reality there are no more reporters in this country- only political pundits serving their masters and eye-candy reading a teleprompter.

Between the two, I can't see Mexico suddenly backsliding to the point where they'd play Argentina. Costa Rica look to be in something of a freefall though and could end up facing Argentina. Can't see them winning. US is the US. We beat Spain and go up 2-0 on Brazil in the Confed Cup Final only to get flat out embarrased at Azteca a couple weeks later. If Bob keeps Jozy and Davies up front and with Gooch back in the XI, we ought to handle T&T tomorrow. Thing is, do you risk injuries to important personnel when the much tougher test (and probably more important and timely) is Honduras at Honduras next month? The good news is our last game is against the faltering Costa Rica at home. Again, totally possible, but unlikely we'd face Argentina. Honduras has played over their heads in this tournament. Seems like everyone keeps expecting them to remember they've only qualified once, but they keep on playing well. Soft as a pillow though. If the officiating isn't "accomodating", I can't see them getting past Argentina. Such a tight race though, anyone could end up in that playoff. Just can't imagine anyone but the U.S. or Mexico actually beating them.

Had a lab going on in the back, I'd come up to my office to see if the Kings had traded for Jason Allison yet, and found a bunch of the news sites were down entirely. Went on a Kings messageboard I frequent and started hearing about the planes. Told my fellow instructors I was going to tell the students they could go home or hang out and talk and listen to the news or whatever. BTW, Kings ended up getting Allison, but their director of scouting and a scout were on flight 175 from Boston. Ace Bailey and Mark Bavis. Weird day. I remember going by the grocery store on the way home from work and everyone was just kind of polite. Like everyone was holding doors open for each other and letting people with less items cut in front of them in line.

But thats the problem Craig, it never will be a priority for a lot of people. If we get promoted then survival will be our priority and the years will pass by and still no trophy and we will be no different in approach to the game than the Boltons of this world. This club has a great cup tradition and thats the way it should continue. Besides it didnt do Burnley much harm last season Strongest line up every time for me for the reasons stated in my earlier post No doubt. Sadly, you're really not far off with that assesment. I think the reason everyone over here is so stupid and reactionary is because our media tries to keep us in a constant fear loop. Even the local news over here does that kind of stuff, "Is your child in danger? Be sure to catch tonight's Action 10 news to find out!" People make really stupid decisions when they're emotional (i.e. scared or angry). Also the fact that we've decreased government spending on education basically every year I've been alive save for a couple under Clinton in his first term probably has a lot to do with it too. That's why I'm kind of torn on legalizing marijuana- on one hand, I think it's hypocritic that it's illegal. On the other hand, I think a lot more folks (including me) would just smoke out all the time and become even more detached and apathetic than we already are if it was legal. But yeah- we bailout multinational banks under Bush by buying up stock and it's necessary. We talk about fixing healthcare and it's communism. I don't get it either. Course, I still don't get the whole Obama/ Joker communism picture thing. The Joker's a communist? Obama's a joker? I dunno.

The Kennedy name hampered him rather than helped him IMO. OK he was certainly gifted the seat of Massachussetts in the senate on the back of his name but had he been shite, they'd certainly have got rid of him but never did. It was almost expected of him to take up the Presidential campaign following the assassination of RFK. Of course Chappaquiddick destroyed any hope he had of ever becoming President, but I doubt he ever wanted it. His campaign in 1980 was against the incumbant President so was never really going to be anything but a damp squib.
