take the rose tinted specs off....I think giving a 27 year old who cost 9.5 m quid a year to settle is a no no, he's a senior professional. He's not even a young player like Viana. Luque didn't show much application for me, and that won't change however much it takes him to "settle". Time will tell. The ultimate gamble IMO, by a manager who created a desperate situation for himself. Unfortunately it is 9.5 m quid of the clubs money if he doesn't and I only hope that if he doesn't, people don't demand fred to splash more cash and point the finger at the real culprit instead 35762 LM I don't know how you can accuse someone of wearing rose tinted specs for wanting to give a player more than one and a half games to prove themselves. Especially when you seem to be wearing blinkers brought on by your hatred of Souness. 35765 Gemmil. Say the name of a few dozen premiership players, how many would you want at Newcastle ? Are you judging them because of how you see them, or because they aren't playing for Newcastle. Isn't that a quick judgement too ? Or would you see them differently if they played for Newcastle ? There is nothing wrong with making quick judgements if you know what you are lookign for in players. Far be it for you to ever admit YOU are wrong about anything anyway mind .....

If anything you’ve allowed your bias against the manager to colour your view of a player you've barely seen. 35766 I think that I am being realistic, whereas I think you are wearing rose tinted specs, just because someone plays for Newcastle, is a foreigner and cost a big fee doesn;t mean he's brilliant........on the contrary look at some of the other big name foreigners ..... As I have already said Emre is good, so your point about me judging the manager is irrelevant, I will judge all players on how I find them. Managers too. Souness is a twat and a shit manager, he can get the best players in the world playing for Newcastle and they would underachieve, and the next confrontation is always around the corner, because he's shit and an arse. We played shit on sunday, rescued by 2 supreme goalscorers. Good team - not. Gone backwards since Souness came - still the case. You don't need to see players for long to make a judgement sometimes, and I haven't written him off yet, just seen a few things that make me doubtful. And - there is no way in the world you can say a 27 year old international who costs 9.5m quid can have a year to "adjust". For that money, at his age and experience, you have every right to demand quick and good, influential performances. Regularly too, in home games and away games. If you don't get it you should have bought someone else.

We will see, when Luque becomes a recluse in away games and N'Zogbia stands up and shows character ..... 35725 Funnily enough I'll wait until I've seen more than 120 minutes of him before passing judgement, it will probably take a season for him to adjust fully. Nice to see you've written him off already though 35754 A full season, for a 27 year old, that cost 9.5 m quid ?? You are joking, aren't you ?
-
Nope, I've read it again and I don't see how I've misread or misconstrued you. Please tell me how I have. 35479 35481 Oh OK, interesting. So for instance, if Luque doesn't play for 3 months, we can't criticise him because he hasn't had a full strengh team. And then if Luque comes back but Owen is out, we can't criticise him....... Face it, they're not going to get on the same team that often. I think it is perfectly fair to judge him now, if the squad is lacking this is at least partly his fault is it not? Also last winters signings - Boumsong, Babayaro, and Faye are also looking suspect. 35489 Craig, are you saying that he can't be expected to take over an established top 5 club, spend 40-50m quid and leave himself with a SQUAD to at least equal what he walked into ?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you are talking about final league position, then I would say, considering the money he has spent, 4th place or higher must be achieved. I'll be amazed if that happens like. 35110 Totally agree, but then some of us warned that some would dilute standards enabling them to call clueless a "success"

howay man PL....I think Zoggy has all the makings of a top player, whereas Luque seems a bit, er, erratic,....thats all. Time will tell, and sometimes these things stand out straightaway, in this case maybe, maybe not. 35294 Its way to early to tell with Luque who hasn't come close to having a chance to show what he can (or can't) do yet, espeically when the likes of Henry and Pires took a whole season in a top class team to reach the right level! I agree about Zog some of his touches, like the drag on the studs to fool Friedel and his freekick show the potential to be a genuine player and he combines it with a high tempo and energy and hoefully also will be a set piece taker of a high standard with time. 35300 I just think what he has shown us so far is that he is a totally different type of player to Luque. Luque will be inconsistent and lack bottle when the chips are down. Zoggy is much tougher, and has more heart and spirit in him. Very important. And whether you have played 90 games or 90 minutes, you can't change that.

I think its very sad that a player who was nothing other than a committed top quality player for us who didn't want to leave the club is being mocked this way, rather than the fuckwit manager who peddled him. Because, indisputeably, we would be better off if he was still here.

stupid twat yourself. I have seen a player I think will be a top player, simple as that, and one who gives me doubts.

N'Zogbia for me. No contest whatsoever.

is this an excuse for keeping him on ?

Yes Gemmill, the performance is the most significant thing in a league game, because this is the best indicator of how good we are. I can remember us having several bad results under Robson at the start of the season we came 3rd, but I wasn't concerned a bit because I could see we were a good team. It's a marathon not a sprint after all *insert other cliches here*. Trust you not to understand this, the Mr McKay voice really suits you! 34827 Glad you like it. The Grim Reaper costume looks good on you too. 34830 Thanks, it a designer fit. But seriously, do you mainly judge games by results or performances? It's an interesting question and might go some way to explaining why we rarely agree with each other. I'm also curious to understand how a person who purely looks at a match in terms of goals scored/conceded can argue with Roberts's statistical contribution? (Joke, I don't want to go there again!) 34832 Of course I consider the performance when I watch a match. Look at the match thread, I was going on about how woeful it was all the way through the first half. But we are a team desperately low on confidence, and once the goals went in you could see that coming back. And if we win an away game 3-0 and I can see the goals bringing some confidence back to the team, then I'm not going to dwell on the performance in the first half - I think that's the difference between the two of us tbh. You dwell on the negative more than I do. 34835 theres a difference between dwelling on the negatives, being realistic, and wearing rose tinted specs

enjoy the win, yes of course, but with reservations as PL says. It's a stay of execution, goals change games and we got them at the right time and staved off a certain defeat. Exercise judgement, or don't criticise Shepherd for keeping him when you take the same view. He is the wrong man, one win changes nothing, it's the end of the season that counts, and I for one am still 100% confident he won't get us back into europe via a league position which is where we were when he found us. For 40m quid. As for "full squad", everyone has injuries, it's part and parcel of the game, no one ever has a "full squad", it's just an excuse.
-
Agreed. The shining light was Zoggy, who Bobby Robson bought. For me, this lad is one hell of a good player and I can't see how Luque is going to get many games

the new version won't update online , unless you are logged on as an "administator" ... but I am the administrator, although I changed my password since setting it the pc up with XP. If I log on with the administrator password, will anti vir install properly ? Will i have to do this whenever I update it, or should I change my admin password to the same as my personal one ? If I have to do this, how do I do it ? Is this [above] what this means ? Or is it a bug in the programme that the company will correct ? Does the new versions of AVG work with mailwasher now, as it used to conflict with it ?

Leazes forecast: Souness will get sacked, Newcastle will climb the table, but not reach where we were when Bellamy was here, and Gemmill STILL won't admit he was wrong about Souness. 32874 Wow. A completely unprovoked "I told you so" post. That's not like you. 32984 thats because if you are usually right, you don't have to admit to being wrong. I'm fairly confident in my assessment of Luque too .........
-
It's not ok. If you are seriously trying to defend your right to tell whatever joke you like, whilst hiding behing the old "not for the easily offended" tag, then you are truly ignorant. That excuse hasn't been acceptable for a generation. I suggest you rethink your views on a range of matters. 32713 if people like you get your way we will soon be afraid to say anything about anything, that is truly an appalling society, that you are helping to create. Why not just make a list of what is acceptable and what isn't acceptable, so everyone knows ....... and even I thought your username is just a bit, erree, well...if you can't see where you are going wrong I'm not telling you

I/m sure you do mate, and so do I. Feel sorry for Souness ? Do I shite, he's a rich man on the back of being a brilliant footballer, getting lucky at winning a shit league with Rangers and masquerading as a manager ever since on the back of it. He may think he is doing it all for the right things or even doing right at all, but that is down to the above, he actually is such a deluded fool thinking he is a good manager at all, I admire him for having the bottle for taking the job on but I still wish he had never came, as for appointing Terry Mac to spin stories for him, it shows how despicable he may well be - as if I needed convincing after the way he has manipulated kicking Bellamy out of the club - and has also ruined any shred of respect and affection I had left for Terry Mac too, following on from the bother we had with him and his son and the academy a few years ago.
-
sorry mate, but "tactically naive"...whats it mean exactly ? Eriksson is supposed to be "tactically astute", it usually means defensive if you think about it. It's just a buzz word. The best tactics are the ones Keegan employed, thats why we finished higher in the league than we have done for 70-odd years. It's alright saying we could have closed those games up against Liverpool and Blackburn, but there are plenty of other games where we went for the 2nd goal, got it and sealed the game. At the end of the day, we just weren't quite as good as or at handling the pressure of the run in than manu, but we would have gained from it if Keegan had stayed. Or maybe it was just our glitch, which manu had earlier. Team selections to an extent and subsitutions are tactical changes, sure, Keegans big mistake for me was changing a winning combination ie arsprilla, losing Venisons experience and Fazackerly, tactics I think are basically making changes through the game if isn;t working out for you, but sitting on a lead - never. I understand what you are saying but I think by being positive Keegan was employing the best tactics thats all, which is playing a way that suited his players, not get them to do something they weren't so good at.
-
well, thats why he was employed
