  1. He played the role of a proper geordie, and ye can narf hear that Birtley twang with Dennis sometimes. The two proper geordies were Oz from NE12 and Vicky from NE16. So what did you make of Fraser's "You can go back to your council estate in South Shields?" I've found myself using "lunch" in the last 2 or 3 years - it makes me die a little inside. She's from Hazelrigg/Wideopen definitely. Are we talking actors or characters though? I also remember a line where Den referred to his "building business in Sunderland" which I found a bit off at the time.
  2. Been on a training course for the last couple of days and it reminded me how much I hate the tube and most of all tourists in London. Nice day yesterday so the tube fucking stank - I think they should introduce random carriage hosings by the fire brigade just to teach half of these fuckers what water is. I also failed to get on 4 or 5 tubes in the first place - I think they need to get those fuckers from Japan with cattle prods to get people to move so you can get on. Then had to walk down Regent St (in the words of the song) which meant wading through armies of zombies masquerading as tourists - especially outside Hamleys - pity they don't sell real Uzis or I'd have been tempted. Back to relative normality tomorrow.
  3. Mate I respect you, I wind people up about South Shields you know as much about football if not more than me and love the toon every bit as much, you're an intelligent poster one of the best on here. I just have a bit of banter, HF knows that too and so does Sima. Ah Kna as ye would say Signed Rewben.
  4. Adding to Stevie's nausea: Mam's house: SAFC: 5.49 NUFC: 8.12 Now: WHU: 24.70 (Not counting Southend, Dagenham and Colchester) NUFC: 239.67

  6. Fuckers at Parcel Force can also charge you ad "admin fee" for sending it to the HMRC which further erodes saving. I bought a KVM switch a couple of years ago from Taiwan and as others have said, at the end of day all the saving was wiped out.
  7. A bit worried - I think I have a toothache coming on and I'm on a training course till Wednesday so may not be able to get it sorted till Thursday. Then there's the whole needing to take half a day off in only my second week in the job paranoia.
  8. Went on one with work when the Tall Ships race was on in 96 - fucking loved it.
  9. These things can always be gotten around by adding in on to the fee or wages - see Barton joining us as an example. I don't believe for one minute that handing in a request would cost him say in excess of 250k.
  10. I think the point is that making a formal transfer request in May would have helped everyone know where they stood - of course you could argue it was pretty obvious anyway but I found his "I'm saying nowt until I get properly tapped by another team" stance to leave a slightly bitter taste. Of course I don't blame him for wanting to leave but imo he went about it wrongly.
  11. I think the Monkey's heed used that bitterness and made it a quite positive thing. Fortunately since then all their managers have been fuckwits and it was only through us having an even bigger fuckwit at the time (Kinnear) that we've lost to them since the Heed.
  12. Random thoughts: If Webb had made Cattermole the first yellow of the game which given the tackle he did give the first one for he could easily have done, they could have been down to 8 - now that would have been funny. I'm really pleased for Ryan Taylor but given how much the cunts hate him, it might have actually been sweeter if Steven Taylor had got a touch. Also the commentators "two Geordies in the team" - since when have Greenwich and Lagos been anyway near the river Tyne (though I respect their adoption). On a personal level I wish I felt the same about the rest of the games like this - it really reminded me how much I used to enjoy football - not the football itself obviously but the emotional involvement. Who knows I may even think about going to a few games again - might see if I can get a ticket for QPR.
  13. I'd love to wire up the two corrupt cunts' testicles to the main and ask them: "You gave a corner, which part of the body did it come off?" - obviously "head" or "torso" hits the switch followed by "How did his head or torso divert a ball which was to the side of his body?" - more zappage as they fail to answer with anything coherent. I expect of it Webb TBH. On another note the complete failure to retain possession just proves why we'll be in a relegation battle this year.
  14. You will spend the first year getting up to speed in those but you should know that they'll be an integral part - if you didn't take them at A level because you wanted to do other stuff more then fair enough but if you dropped them because you didn't like them or weren't good enough at them then I'd rethink engineering.
  15. It's about time someone mentioned that the coppers deliberately held back so they could use their performance as an argument against the cuts.
  16. For what its worth if you want a really good career in IT then academically the best subject you could do by a billion miles is maths. There's a huge demand for analytical modelling and shit like that in finance - if you go as far as getting an MSc or a PHD and combine it with a decent standard of general computing you can easily earn 100k+
  17. When I first joined my previous place, we had a senior manager who completely allowed "testing" in the live environment - it took a "we're closing you down tomorrow" audit from PWC to put a stop to it - happy days. I still don't think people realise in anyway shape way or form that emails/internet browsing are or can be completely recorded - when we first went from a ramshackle internet network + netware for the proper stuff to a full Windows network it was unbelievable how many people did actually have quite blatant porn on their PCs without a care in the world.

I read a book a while ago called "Why do people get ill?" - the conclusion was that the power of the mind on the human body is seriously underestimated. This wasn't some spiritualist bollocks either but a look at how absolutely central stress is to a lot of illnesses - even to the extent of "allowing" a cold to take hold one day and laughing it off the next (Think Bart getting the antibody troops to lie down on a school day). As others have said I wouldn't be surprised if you're reacting to all the crap you've mentioned lately.
  19. Snap - though the tie stays at home from tomorrow and remote access will be possible. Funny being somewhere where things are happening and people have things to do after how much the previous place had turned to shit. Of course I hadn't been fully set up on the systems so its nice to see how IT production uselessness is universal. Only dodgy thing is its one of those "let's all stay to 6:30/7:00 just to prove how dedicated we are" - don't mind it for a while but I'll migrate to my 5:00 bell soon. Love the way that's always blamed on IT like. I can't speak for other organisations but at ours, the main problem is that the employee number is used as the login ID (an HR decision, NOT an IT one). Conversely that means that we cannot create a new user account until HR have informed us what the employee number is. Only they refuse to generate that number until the day the person actually starts (i.e. so they don't generate an emp no. for someone who thinks "fuck it, i'll not bother turning up" which happens more than I thought). Result being the new starter doesn't get handed their login details until midway through the morning of their first day. Then most secondary logins have to be created after that a lot of them rely on active directory. Be fucking wonderful to live in a world whereby we flick a switch and the job is done - not in the least bit realistic though. Fair point - I agree on HR and would add internal auditors who come up with these procedures in the first place. Actual problem here is my boss's boss hasn't approved the AD setup in the workflow engine. I'm slightly suffering from moving to a bigger place - I can no longer twist the arm of a lad sitting opposite me to get things done or even worse ask him to log on as domain admin and let me do something. I always knew that was incredibly wrong but fuck me it allowed things to actually get done.

My view is that bosses should think if you can't get your work done in 7.5/8 hours then you're fucking useless. I spent almost the whole of 2007 doing it (and more) out of complete necessity to get a huge project done and I got absolutely no credit for it when it came to bonus/pay rise - since then I've just thought I'd rather leave on time having done a decent shift and if that supposedly costs me a couple of grand then fuck them - Id rather have the time back.

  22. I have no problem with Barton dragging the cheat to his feet but the reaction to the "punch" was embarrassing. Will be interesting to see if Song gets the same video treatment Barton did for the Blackburn punch. Overall would have taken a point but last years problem has been completely un-addressed - absolutely no creativity. Cabaye looks tidy, Obertan is shit. The fact that Ameobi, Best and Lovenkrands still feature means we face a relegation fight imo.
  23. A lot of people including me have criticised the way housing and schools are segregated in Ulster which is a piss poor start before anything else is taken into account. However I never realised how much that same policy was carried out in the past regarding immigration - a lad I worked with at my last place who's about 40 was brought up in Deptford and it surprised me when he told me how in South London when he was a kid there were white and black estates which meant white and black schools. Now of course I can understand immigrants wanting to stick together on arrival but it seems as if the whole thing was exaggerated and pandered to from the start. I suppose we should be thankful that despite that London as a whole has become a lot more mixed though obviously with pockets of segregation as well.
  24. I saw that but need to know the basis for "bits of entropy" before embracing its correctness.
  25. This is why for me that no matter how much I do think "they're scum", I also think it needs bigger answers - a lot of the time you just can't get decent people out of shit upbringings and I don't think they should be blamed 100% It's too easy for us who have been brought up properly to look down on them when it's not necessarily their fault.
