    Hillsborough

We went to Coventry in 84 or 85 and there were fences in front of the seats - you couldn't see the pitch and standing meant arrest.

    Hillsborough

My brother was there. I sort of saved his life - he'd never been to Hillsborough before so I told him to head for the corner bit as the view was better from there which he did. It took him till about 9pm to find a phone by which time my Mam (and my Dad and me) were sick with worry. The fans weren't blameless but imo that was just the nature of football fans in general - not particularly scousers but anyone who had been to Sheffield in the 80s (or indeed more recently) knows where the blame lies - in the utter bunch of cunts known as the South Yorkshire police force. A small mention also for Graham Kelly who while people were still dying gave an interview whose whole purpose was to deflect blame form the FA - a despicable piece of shit and on my list of people who I think hell existing would almost be worthwhile for. Another mention for Jimmy Hill - the pitch fence zealot - I'm sure he thought incidents like this were a price worth paying to keep a few idiots off the pitch. Final world - anyone who was at WHL in 1987 when we played them in the cup knows how close it was to be us.

    A few tips

Have to say I was expecting "Always check your wallet's still there after talking to a scouser" type tips.
  5. 35 min train commute to Liverpool St. I used to have a same time length trip on the Metro when I worked in Newcastle which was about 10% of what I pay now.
  6. I sent a letter on the 4th after speaking to them on the 31st Jan stating my intentions and also that I realised I needed to pay this season's proportion of the discount. I asked them to ring me for my credit card details which they haven't done. I cancelled the direct debit they'd setup on the 9th.
  7. Or make him manager instead of Kinnear.
  8. Pay per play basis using the money from sacking Shola and a couple of other wastes of space.
  9. Can't read the first two pages at work as they are victim of the porn filter for some reason so apologies of already said: I've cancelled my direct debit and the only thing that will get me back is a sale so I can't see a sales pitch from the people responsible for the reasons I'm not bothering making any difference. As I've said if we do go down I'll go to a few more away games next season instead. I know its different for me as the travel/expense make the decision easier to some extent than those who live locally - I have mates who are just as pissed off as me who won't cancel as going to the match is easier and more part of a normal weekend socialising.

    fake id

Mate of mine didn't have any ID on him in a pub in Washington when we were there - had to get a taxi back to the hotel for his passport to the cries of "But I'm bloody 33". Local bye-law apparently.
  11. Shola has done ok. 4 Goals and 4 assists this season. If that includes Duff's goal against West Brom then its a perfect example of shit stats - his pass was shit and got there because the defender fell over. As for the game our only hope of coming within a mile of beating good teams which it pains me to say Everton are is to start every game with Viduka and Martins. I'd also play Lovenkrands instead of Duff.
  12. As long as we take back all his wages when we go down.
  13. I think its funny how "paying off" the debts is seen as a magic bullet which renders any of Ashley's other evils as moot while mocking LM's flip side that qualifying for Europe allows Shepherd a blank slate to rape nuns.

    Are you religious?

This is one of the special "get outs" religion has that annoys me - we have a voting age and an age for consent/marriage based on kids "not being ready" but 6 year olds can still be called catholics or whatever.

    Are you religious?

It';s a tough call as at my most fundamental I'd love to see indoctrination of kids banned but unfortunately if its an important issue for parents then its unworkable - we either need to rely on gradual reduction in "fervour" or have a cut-off point like removing all kids from their parents for one generation . One of the worrying developments in the UK is of course faith schools - even if people are faking it to gain entry, its still a link to the churches - it goes without saying I'd abolish them.

I think as long as you question things then it's fine - I think catholicism can provide a good moral grounding but when I think of the stuff I now reject I think the morality I now have is just through good parenting. I guess if you're not lucky in that respect then a religious framework could provide what's missing. My dad was nominally protestant but I'm not sure he believed in God - but he did think morality can only come from religion (which I don't accept) which was why he was happy for my Mam to raise me as a catholic. I think he was a good enough man in his own right to raise me regardless of which church I went to. You mention a mix in England - I do know that my parents had quite a bit of hassle from both sides (CofE + catholic) when they married in 1946 - another area where I think things have improved for the better in modern times. On abortion I support choice but at the same time I think its a nasty business we could and should do without - by getting rid of the need for it I mean.

    Are you religious?

I think that's a misconception - not that we're animals but that what you refer to as survival of the fittest which is actually survival of those who are the best at reproducing. Primates of which we are one are social animals - humanity has thrived through building communities. Of course conflict can then arise between communities but the basic need to want to belong is something we shouldn't knock. That can work wrongly in the sense of nationalism or even in religious gang forming but I think ideally I'd like to see our community forming instinct to be globalised and not just for trade. I think on that score however, Sci-Fi probably has it right - it will take either the conquest of space or contact with other life to bring about a true worldwide community.

    Are you religious?

Raised a catholic - doubts surfaced as I hit teens - sort of hung on for a couple of years from not wanting to hurt my Mam's feelings and when I told her she call me an idiot (nicely) for not being honest. Now I entertain the notion of a Deist "creator" but feel its unlikely and am vehemently against the man-made organised control regimes that blight the world. I accept what I see as the human weakness in wanting to have something post death and don't knock that need but the dogma and irrational beliefs like creationism drive me absolutely mental. Prefer Hitchens - nastier with more alcohol around.
  19. Suggesting that they will go back for the same targets in the summer suggests two things: 1. Wise et al are really in charge of transfers a la supposed structure which makes "Every manager has had the players he's wanted" a complete lie. 2. Operation aside, they are assuming/have planned for Kinnear being manager next season
  20. If Allah wanted every human to be Muslim then why did he create alcohol?
  21. Just read today's Journal part and it's worse than the chron one. £38m net - fuck right off you lying piece of shit.
  22. Yeah despite my dislike of him as a manager that's exactly how I feel.
  23. On the contrary - they may be a little ignorant but at the same time I'd say every Yank I've ever met has been as friendly as fuck and I can't think of any cuntism whatsoever.
